  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Only one strikeout in no-decision

Weathers did not factor into the decision Monday against Atlanta, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out one.

Weathers was looking steady against the dynamic Atlanta offense until yielding a two-run blast to Travis d'Arnaud in the fourth inning. The Miami lefty has been surprisingly effective in his first five starts this year, pitching to a 3.16 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 23:12 K:BB over 25.2 innings. Weathers is scheduled to make his next start against the Nationals at home.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Cleared for next start

Weathers (hand) is slated to start Sunday's game against the Cubs in Chicago, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Weathers experienced some cramping in his left hand late in his most recent start in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Giants, but he had already tossed 90 pitches in the outing and wasn't likely to stay in the game much longer even if the issue hadn't cropped up. Before departing, Weathers notched his first quality start of the season, covering six innings and striking out 10 while allowing two earned runs on five hits and one walk. Through four starts this season, Weathers now owns a 3-1 record, 2.70 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 22:9 K:BB in 20 innings, numbers that make him worth a look in shallower leagues where he still might be available on the waiver wire.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Exits Tuesday's start early

Weathers was removed from Tuesday's start against the Giants after the sixth inning due to cramping in his left hand, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Weathers was removed for precautionary reasons, exiting after he tossed six frames of two-run ball during which he allowed five hits and a walk while striking out a season-high 10 batters. There doesn't appear to be any long-term concern for the left-hander, and considering he was at 90 pitches on the day, Weathers was unlikely to remain in the contest much longer. His status moving forward will receive an update following the game, but he seems likely to be ready to go for his next projected start Sunday on the road versus the Cubs.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Twirls five scoreless frames

Weathers (1-1) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing three hits and three walks with one strikeout over five scoreless innings against the Yankees.

Weathers turned in his best start of 2024, holding the Yankees without an extra-base hit and not allowing a single baserunner past second base. While the 24-year-old lefty hasn't gone deeper than five frames this season, he's been a surprising source of stability on the Marlins' pitching staff, posting a 2.57 ERA with one home run allowed over 14 innings. However, with Braxton Garrett (shoulder) and Edward Cabrera (shoulder) nearing their returns, it's unclear if Weathers will take another turn in the Marlins' rotation in the immediate future.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Stuck with no-decision

Weathers didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Cardinals. He allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings.

Weathers was solid for the most part Thursday, holding St. Louis to an Ivan Herrera solo homer in the second inning before the Cardinals tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the fifth. Weathers departed with a one-run lead, though the Marlins' bullpen couldn't make it hold up in an eventual 8-5 defeat. The 24-year-old southpaw is 0-1 while allowing four runs in nine innings across his first two starts this year. Weathers could carve out a more permanent role in Miami's rotation after it was announced that Eury Perez (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Yankees in his next outing.
