Clase earned the save Thursday against the Red Sox, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning. It's the fifth straight scoreless outing from Clase -- he's allowed just one hit while striking out eight in his last five innings. Overall, the right-hander is 8-for-10 in save chances this year with a stellar 0.69 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 14:1 K:BB over 13 innings.... See More ... See Less

Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Up to seven saves
Clase earned the save Tuesday against the Red Sox, striking out three in a perfect ninth inning. Called upon to protect a three-run lead in the ninth, Clase made quick work of the middle of Boston's order, striking out the side en route to his seventh save this year. Clase's allowed just one hit in his last four innings while logging seven strikeouts in that span. He lowered his ERA to 0.75 with a 0.92 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB across 12 innings this season.... Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Rebounds for fifth save
Clase earned the save in Thursday's 5-4 win over Boston, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning. It was an encouraging effort from Clase after he'd blown his previous two save opportunities. Despite his recent rough patch, the 26-year-old Clase has been excellent overall to start the year, allowing just one earned run through his first nine innings while striking out seven as he improves to 5-for-7 in save chances.... Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Gets win after blown save
Clase (1-0) was charged with his second blown save of the season Tuesday, but he picked up the win in a 10-7 extra-innings victory over the Red Sox after giving up an unearned run on one hit in the 10th inning. The right-hander couldn't stop the phantom runner from scoring after the Guardians had taken a 7-6 lead in the top of the 10th, but Cleveland tacked on three more runs in the 11th to put the game away. Clase is 4-for-6 in converting save chances to begin the season, but that's been due more to bad luck more than bad pitching -- he sports a 1.13 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 6:0 K:BB through eight innings, and his spot as Cleveland's closer is in no jeopardy.... Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Squanders save chance
Clase allowed a run on two hits in one inning during Sunday's win over the Yankees. He blew a save opportunity and did not strike out a batter. Clase coughed up a run on a double by Anthony Volpe before the Guardians eventually won in the 10th inning. It was Clase's first blown save of the year after converting his first four chances. It was also the first run he allowed after beginning the season with a six-inning scoreless streak. This blown save won't impact his role as Cleveland's closer.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Nails down fourth save
Clase gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his fourth save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Twins. The 26-year-old right-hander led the majors in saves each of the last two seasons, and he's already jumped out in front in 2024 by converting all four of his chances. Clase also has an encouraging 4:0 K:BB in four innings to go along with his 0.00 ERA, after his strikeout rate dipped to a career-low 7.9 K/9 in 2023. He remains arguably the most stable closer in the game, offering solid ratios and a team environment that sees him get the lion's share of the save opportunities for a team that isn't built to blow out the opposition.... Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Earns third save
Clase set the Twins down in order during a scoreless ninth inning to earn his third save of the year Thursday. Clase allowed a couple of hard-hit balls in the frame, though they'd both result in outs as the 26-year-old right-hander locked down his third save, tying him for the league lead in the early going. Clase took a slight step back last year, pitching to a 3.22 ERA over 72.2 innings, though he'd still wind up with a career-best 44 saves in 56 chances.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: PIcks up second save
Clase gave up one hit and struck out two during a scoreless inning to earn a save Tuesday against Seattle. Clase took the mound with three runs of cushion, and the Guardians' lead was never threatened. He's now converted both of his save chances this season and could push for a third straight season of 40-plus saves. Clase is coming off a career-worst 3.22 ERA and 12 blown saves in 2023 after previously having not blown more than five in a single year.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Notches first save
Clase allowed a hit in a scoreless ninth inning and earned a save over Oakland on Friday. After a fielding error and a base hit, Clase faced a bit of a jam before closing out the game with a double play. He needed just eight total pitches to finish off Friday's win. The 26-year-old picked up right where he left off after leading MLB in saves during the 2022 and 2023 campaigns. Clase arguably has the most job security of any closer and should be among the league leaders once again.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Still among top closers
Clase has allowed two hits and struck out four batters over his first two Cactus League appearances. Clase saved 44 of his 56 opportunities last season, and while it wasn't the dominance he displayed in the previous two years, he was never at risk of losing ninth-inning duties. Clase should continue in the closer role this season. James Karinchak (shoulder) and Trevor Stephan (elbow) are already banged up in the spring, leaving Scott Barlow as the Guardians' top option for saves when Clase is unavailable.... See More ... Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Notches 44th save
Clase picked up the save Friday against the Tigers. He allowed one run on one hit over one inning without walking or striking out a batter. Clase yielded a 391-foot solo homer to Spencer Torkelson to lead off the ninth inning before promptly retiring the next three Detroit batters. Although he has secured a career-high 44 saves, the Cleveland closer has struggled a bit this year, posting a career-worst 3.14 ERA and 8.0 K/9 (compared to a career 1.47 ERA and 9.3 K/9 prior to the season). Clase been especially shaky in September with a 4.63 ERA and 5.4 K/9 over 11.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Nabs 43rd save
Clase picked up the save Wednesday against Cincinnati. He allowed one hit over a scoreless inning while not recording any strikeouts or walks. Clase allowed a hit to Noelvi Marte in the second at-bat after entering the contest with a one-run lead in the top of the ninth, but lucked out when Marte was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double. The right-handed reliever was then able to retire the next batter and secure his league-leading 43rd save of the season, needing only seven pitches in total to get through the frame. Clase has now converted four of his last five save attempts but he's also allowed at least one hit in five straight appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Locks down 42nd save
Clase picked up the save Thursday against the Orioles. He allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two over a scoreless inning. After the first two Orioles reached safely in the ninth, Clase rebounded to strike out his next two batters before coaxing a game-ending flyout from Gunnar Henderson. Clase remains the lone closer with over 40 saves on the year. He's allowed just one earned run in his last six outings (five innings), lowering his ERA to 2.97 with a 1.15 WHIP and 63:16 K:BB across 69.2 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Converts for save No. 41
Clase picked up the save Saturday against Texas. He allowed one hit and struck out one over a scoreless inning. Clase now owns four more saves than any other closer in baseball with 41 despite having blown two of his last five save opportunities. The 25-year-old has solidified himself as one of baseball's best ninth-inning arms, having corralled 40 or more saves in back-to-back seasons while owning a career ERA of 1.92.... See More ... Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Records 40th save
Clase pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Giants. Clase needed 13 pitches (eight strikes) to complete the clean inning just a day after he blew a save in the 10th inning. This was Clase's 40th save of the season -- he's the first to reach that mark in 2023, though he's also blown a major-league-leading 11 saves in 69 appearances. The Guardians closer has allowed six runs (four earned) over his last 9.1 innings and has a 3.11 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB through 66.2 innings overall.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Falters again Monday
Clase (2-9) failed to record an out Monday versus the Giants, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits to take a blown save and the loss. Clase gave up back-to-back RBI singles to Blake Sabol and LaMonte Wade, surrendering the one-run lead the Guardians had taken in the top of the 10th inning. This was Clase's second blown save in his last three appearances, and he's up to 11 blown saves while converting a major-league leading 39 saves this season. He's at a 3.15 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB through 66.2 innings. Despite his struggles this year, the Guardians have stood by the 25-year-old in the closer role throughout the campaign, and it seems unlikely he'd lose the gig this late in the year with the team's playoff hopes already quite faint.... Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Tagged with 10th blown save
Clase (2-8) blew a save and took the loss against the Angels on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over two-thirds of an inning. Clase entered in the ninth frame to try to protect a 2-1 lead but couldn't get the job done. Los Angeles racked up three straight hits with one out to score the game-tying run, and the contest ended when Randal Grichuk singled home the game-winning score with two outs. Clase had been pitching very well coming into Thursday, converting each of his previous seven save chances and allowing just one run over 10.2 innings during that stretch. He leads the majors in both saves (38) and blown saves (10) on the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Secures 38th save
Clase picked up the save in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the Twins, striking out one over a perfect inning. Clase ran right through the middle of the Twins' lineup after entering the contest with a one-run lead in the ninth, needing only 10 pitches to wrap things up and secure his league-leading 38th save of the season. The right-handed reliever has not allowed any hits or walks in four straight appearances and has now converted each of his last seven save opportunities.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Grabs league-leading 36th save
Clase picked up the save Wednesday against the Twins, striking out one over a perfect inning. Clase needed just 11 pitches to get through the back end of the Twins' lineup and record his league-leading 36th save of the season. He threw strikes on eight of those pitches and has now converted each of his last five save opportunities. Despite blowing two saves this month, Clase has still maintained a 2.92 ERA in August to go along with a 14:2 K:BB.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Earns extra-inning win
Clase (2-7) earned the win Sunday against the Blue Jays. He allowed one unearned run on one hit and a walk while striking out two over 1.2 innings. Clase entered with one out in the 10th to face the heart of the Blue Jays' order, then after the Guardians took the lead in the 11th, finished out the game. He now hasn't allowed an earned run in his past five appearances. Along with the two wins, Clase has 34 saves in 43 chances with a 2.90 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 56 strikeouts over 59 innings....
