Exum could remain in the starting lineup until Grant Williams (knee) returns.

  • Mavericks' Dante Exum: Making first start of season

Exum will join the first unit for Wednesday's game against the Jazz. Fresh off a two-game absence for personal reasons, Exum will make his first start of 2023-24 on Wednesday. With the trio of Maxi Kleber (toe), Grant Williams (knee) and Josh Green (elbow) sidelined, Exum will slot in alongside Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Derrick Jones and Dereck Lively in the starting lineup. In his last 10 appearances, Exum is averaging 6.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 13.8 minutes.

  • Mavericks' Dante Exum: Returns to practice

Exum (personal) was back at practice Monday, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports. Exum was away from the Mavericks for the past two games for personal reasons, but he'll be available to return for Wednesday's game against the Jazz. In his most recent game against the Rockets on Nov. 28, Exum played well, recording 12 points, three assists, one rebound and one steal in 15 minutes.

  • Mavericks' Dante Exum: Won't play Friday

Exum is listed as out for Friday's contest versus Memphis due to personal reasons. With Exum and Luka Doncic (personal) out, Kyrie Irving, Jaden Hardy and Seth Curry will likely receive extended minutes in the backcourt against the Grizzlies. Exum's next chance to suit up is Saturday's matchup with the Thunder.

  • Mavericks' Dante Exum: Reaches double digits in win

Exum dropped a season-high 12 points (3-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 5-8 FT) along with three assists, one rebound and one steal in Tuesday's 121-115 victory over the Rockets. Exum seems to have embraced his role as the backup point guard, and he has been rewarded with a steady increase in minutes, as he averaged 14.4 minutes per game in his last nine contests compared to only 5.3 minutes per game in his first six. After being a healthy scratch against the Magic on Nov. 6, Exum has averaged 6.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.1 blocks across 13.8 minutes since then.

  • Mavericks' Dante Exum: Season-high nine points

Exum supplied nine points (4-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT), one rebound and two assists over 12 minutes during Tuesday's 131-110 loss to the Pelicans. Exum has played double-digit minutes in three straight games. During that stretch, he's averaged 7.7 points, 3.0 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game. That's not enough production to crack fantasy radars in standard leagues, but he's someone to keep an eye on if Luka Doncic or Kyrie Irving is sidelined in the future.

  • Mavericks' Dante Exum: Plays double-digit minutes

Exum ended Wednesday's 114-105 win over Chicago with two points (1-3 FG), two rebounds and one steal across 10 minutes. Exum saw a slight uptick in his playing time Wednesday without Kyrie Irving (foot). However, Exum's average of 7.0 minutes per game across four appearances this season isn't enough to generate serious fantasy interest.

  • Mavericks' Dante Exum: Plays 13 minutes in season opener

Exum recorded five points (1-4 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, three assists and one steal in 13 minutes during Thursday's preseason opener against the Timberwolves in Abu Dhabi. Exum is back in the NBA for the first time since 2020-21. The 2014 No. 5 overall pick can certainly be considered a bust and isn't expected to carve out a major role for Dallas in 2023-24. However, he does great work defensively, which the Mavericks desperately need, and can bring a veteran mentality to a relatively young wing group that will likely rely heavily on youngsters like Josh Green and Olivier-Maxence Prosper.

  • Mavericks' Dante Exum: Signs with Mavs in return to NBA

Exum signed a guaranteed contract with the Mavericks on Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Exum last played in the NBA during the 2020-21 season while he was with the Cavaliers, and he also has had stints with the Jazz and Rockets in the NBA, though he never got to play for Houston before getting released. He's coming off of an excellent season with Partizan in Serbia, leading the club to the EuroLeague quarterfinals and the ABA Liga title, and he'll now have another shot in the NBA. He can add instant offense off the bench and is a good perimeter defender, but his main problem has been the lack of durability. Since being drafted fifth overall in the 2014 NBA Draft, he's appeared in just 245 games

Exum signed an undisclosed contract Saturday to return to Houston, Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston reports. • Rockets' Dante Exum: Officially out for season

Exum (calf) is out for the season, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports. Exum suffered a calf injury in early January and hasn't played since. He'll finish the 2020-21 season with just six games played while on the Cavaliers. Exum remains one of the league's most injury-prone players. Since being drafted No. 5 overall in 2014, he's appeared in just 245 games. He is a free agent this offseason, and he may struggle to find a suitor willing to give him an extended contract.

  • Rockets' Dante Exum: Remains out indefinitely

Exum (calf) is listed as out for Monday's game against the Grizzlies. The guard remains without a firm return timetable, and the Rockets haven't provided a recent update, so it's very much unclear how much more time the oft-injured guard will miss.

  • Rockets' Dante Exum: Still in walking boot

Exum (calf) remains in a walking boot and is without a firm timetable to return, Ben DuBose of USA Today reports. The oft-injured guard hasn't played since early January, back when he was member of the Cavs, and coach Stephen Silas didn't sound optimistic that he'll be available anytime soon. With the All-Star break approaching, 2020-21 is shaping up to be another season mostly lost to injury for Exum.

  • Rockets' Dante Exum: Moved to Rockets

Exum (calf) was sent to the Rockets in the blockbuster move that resulted in James Harden landing in Brooklyn, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Exum is expected to remain sidelined until early March due to a strained right calf, and even once he returns, he likely won't have a significant role with the Rockets. At best, he'd occupy a backup point guard role, but he's struggled to do that effectively in the past.

  • Cavaliers' Dante Exum: Out 6-to-8 weeks

The Cavaliers announced Wednesday that Exum (calf) will be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Tuesday that the strained right calf Exum sustained in the opening minute of Monday's loss to the Magic would sideline the guard for 1-to-2 months, but the Cavaliers' own report provides a tighter timeline for his return. The calf strain is just the latest in a long line of a major injuries for the No. 5 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, who has played more than 45 games just once in the past five seasons. Even if he experiences no snags in his rehab, Exum could remain sidelined until the All-Star break in early March.

  • Cavaliers' Dante Exum: Facing extended absence

Exum was diagnosed Tuesday with a right calf strain and will be sidelined one to two months, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. The 25-year-old sustained the injury during Monday's game against the Magic and will be unavailable for at least the next four weeks. A more specific timeline for Exum's return should come into focus as he progresses in his recovery.

  • Cavaliers' Dante Exum: Ruled out Wednesday

Exum (calf) will not play in Wednesday's game against the Magic. Exum strained his right calf early in Monday night's game and did not return, so his absence Wednesday isn't a surprise. With the Cavs playing on the front end of a back-to-back, it's very possible Exum could be looking at a multigame absence.
