Bears vs. Lions final score: Mitchell Trubisky's monster fourth quarter fuels Chicago's comeback victory

Mitchell Trubisky and the Chicago Bears pulled off an incredible come-from-behind victory in their season opener to defeat the Detroit Lions, 27-23. While the Lions dominated the first three quarters, it was the last quarter that mattered. Trubisky tossed three touchdowns in the final stanza, which fueled a 21-0 run that resulted in Chicago's first win of the season.

The first half was all too much like the 2019 season for Chicago. Trubisky missed open wideouts, there was plenty of miscommunication between the quarterback and receivers and the Bears failed to finish off drives. The former No. 2 overall pick then completely flipped the script in the second half, while Detroit suffered yet another one of its patented fourth-quarter meltdowns. Matthew Stafford led the Lions into the red zone late in the game, but a perfect pass to rookie running back D'Andre Swift was dropped in the end zone. It was just not meant to be for Detroit.

Trubisky finished with 242 yards passing and three touchdowns while David Montgomery led the rushing attack, with the second-year player rushing for 64 yards on 13 carries and averaging 4.9 yards per carry. While the Lions lost a heartbreaker, there were some positives to come out of Week 1. The veteran Adrian Peterson rushed for 93 yards and also caught three passes for 21 yards. It doesn't appear that he plans on slowing down anytime soon. Second-year tight end T.J. Hockenson also had a nice game, as he caught five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown. Stafford threw for 297 yards, one touchdown and one interception, but his tipped pass late in the fourth quarter, which resulted in the one turnover of the game, was his team's undoing.

It was truly a wild matchup, so be sure to relive all the action in our live blog below!

Trubisky finishes with 242 passing yards and three touchdowns. Ugly start but great end. He has to feel confident moving forward while the Lions have to feel completely deflated.

You hate to see a rookie go down like that.

There is no one open downfield and the Lions just took their final timeout. My goodness.

Right on time, Trubisky throws his third TD of the quarter and the Bears now have the lead. Unbelievable.

It appears the Bears will at least be able to tie the game, but obviously you want more. Trubisky has thrown both of his touchdowns in this final quarter, and it feels like another one is coming. Would be huge for his confidence moving forward.

Mitch has completely flipped the script. That was a great drive. 14 straight points for Chicago.

WHAT A PLAY BY MITCH. He escaped pressure and then hit Graham in stride. Not sure this is going to stand, but wow.
