Skarek inked a two-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Tuesday. Skarek posted a 15-16-3 record with a 3.37 GAA and an .892 save percentage in 38 games for AHL Bridgeport last season. The 23-year-old netminder will likely begin the 2023-24 campaign in the minors.... See More ... See Less

Islanders' Jakub Skarek: Joins Islanders
Skarek was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Monday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Skarek posted a 15-16-3 record in the minors this season with a 3.37 GAA and an .892 save percentage in 38 appearances. He will serve as the third goaltender for the Islanders in the postseason behind Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Jakub Skarek: Goalie of the month
Skarek was named goalie of the month for Bridgeport of the AHL, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Skarek went 5-0-2 with a 1.98 GAA and .935 save percentage in seven games in January. Those numbers could make it easier for the Islanders to consider a trade of Semyon Varlamov at the NHL trade deadline. Varlamov and Ilya Sorokin have pretty much split the starting job over the past two seasons. However, with the Islanders still up against the salary cap, they could decide to move on from Varlamov and save his $5 million versus the cap next season. Skarek will likely be the backup to Sorokin if that's the case.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Jakub Skarek: Assigned to AHL affiliate
Skarek was assigned to AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday. Ilya Sorokin and Cory Schneider are currently serving as the Islanders' top-two netminders, and Semyon Varlamov (undisclosed) should be ready to return soon, so there's no reason for the team to carry Skarek as a fourth goalie. The 21-year-old Skarek will undoubtedly spend most of the campaign in the minors.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Jakub Skarek: Back to minors
Skarek was demoted to AHL Bridgeport on Monday, CapFriendly reports. Skarek has yet to make his NHL debut. The 21-year-old netminder owns a .895 save percentage and 3.33 GAA through seven AHL games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Jakub Skarek: Up to taxi squad Wednesday
Skarek was promoted to the taxi squad Wednesday, per CapFriendly. Cory Schneider was assigned to AHL Bridgeport on a conditioning loan, so Skarek will serve as the No. 3 goalie for the Islanders. Once Schneider's loan is done, Skarek will likely return to the minors.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Jakub Skarek: Assigned to minor-league affiliate
Skarek was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports. Skarek is expected to return to the taxi squad after starting for Bridgeport on Wednesday. The 21-year-old netminder has yet to make his NHL debut.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Jakub Skarek: Sent to AHL
Skarek was sent to AHL Bridgeport on Friday, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports. Skarek is no better than fourth on the depth chart in goal for the Islanders. If he were to start a game for the team this season, things must have gone terribly wrong between the pipes. Skarek will serve as organizational depth in goal.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Jakub Skarek: Loaned overseas
Skarek will join Finnish team Heinolan Peliitat on loan for the start of the 2020-21 campaign, Brian Compton of NHL.com reports. Skarek split time between the AHL and ECHL last season but struggled regardless, posting sub-900 save percentages with both teams and registered just six wins in a combined 30 games. At this point, fantasy players shouldn't be expecting the 21-year-old netminder to crack the Isles roster any time soon, making him a non-factor in almost all formats.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Jakub Skarek: On ice Wednesday
Skarek (undisclosed) joined the Isles for Wednesday's practice session, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Skarek won't be getting into a game for the club anytime soon and should be considered a longshot for the 23-man roster next year. The 20-year-old netminder saw action in 16 contests for AHL Bridgeport in this season but still split time in the ECHL as well, something he shouldn't have to do in 2020-21.... See More ... Islanders' Jakub Skarek: Missing again Tuesday
Skarek was not on the ice for the second day in a row Tuesday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Skarek almost certainly is fourth on the team depth chart, so his chances of actually playing in any games are pretty much nil. Heading into the play-in series against Florida, the Isles figure to utilize Seymon Varlamov between the pipes.... See More ... See Less

Stan Fischler@StanFischler11H ago"It was tough to hear that, just one year," Oliver Wahlstrom said. "But at the end of the day, I was happy with the @NYIslanders and happy to come back." A breakout season in the works? Motivation & opportunity is there! @TheHockeyNews 👇🏼 https://t.co/qEbETddT0m

Stan Fischler@StanFischler1D agoThe @NYIslanders offense in New Jersey in loss to the @NJ Devils was encouraging; especially Horvat-Barzal and Nelson-Engvall. But exhibitions are made for improving and coach knows what to do. We also know that the Devs are Cup threats with the possible exception of their D.

Kevin Kurz@KKurzNHL1D agoTough game to judge Sam Ersson with only 11 shots against, but the fact he's playing the whole game could mean he has the backup job already locked up. Have to imagine Carter Hart gets all of the preseason finale on Thursday vs. the Islanders

Stan Fischler@StanFischler1D agoThe @NYIslanders Simon Holmstrom played 50 games last season & stood out defensively. In those 50 games, Holmstrom scored six🚨with three 🍎s. Now, he’s got his shot to produce with No.13 &14! @stefen_rosner @TheHockeyNews https://t.co/zY99zxUEGt

Stan Fischler@StanFischler2D agoOf all the @NYIslanders who bear watching, the forward who fascinates me most is #JulienGauthier. If #KylePalmieri isn't ready for the Opener, Gauthier's role will become even more important on the right side. This could be Julien's breakout year.

Stan Fischler@StanFischler3D agoIt was encouraging to see Varly go the route for the @NYIslanders last night. Lines were impressive and overall result good. This could be the start of something big. But -- let's not forget -- it's still training camp. I wonder if Lou will make a surprise add to the roster. Yes?

Kevin Kurz@KKurzNHL6D ago2-0 Islanders after two. Gauthier's half-slapper from the top of the circle seemed to surprise Samuel Ersson, who came on to start the period after Felix Sandstrom played pretty well in the first.

Stan Fischler@StanFischler7D agoThere's no doubt that @NYIslanders forward Brock Nelson would blush at the thought of it, but that's okay. There's a majestic quality about the man. Majestic. Period. @TheHockeyNews 👇🏼 https://t.co/JczvALp2pN
