Shockingly enough, Hudson's three strikeouts were his most in a start since he had seven Aug. 20. He had just five strikeouts in his previous four starts and has only managed to reach six innings once in his last six starts. The 28-year-old is up to a 5.12 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 40:30 K:BB in 70.1 innings. He's projected to face the Padres on the road in his next outing.

Hudson was staked to an early 6-0 lead before yielding two runs in the fourth inning. He was still ahead 7-2 entering the sixth but couldn't record an out in that frame, allowing four straight baserunners -- three of whom crossed the plate -- before his departure. Hudson nonetheless collected the win, his fifth over his past seven outings. He's settled into a spot in the Cardinals' rotation and should remain there for the rest of the campaign, as he's posted a passable 4.54 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 41.2 innings across seven starts since the beginning of August.

Hudson came into the contest having won each of his previous four starts, but he couldn't continue that streak against the Phillies. Marmol notes that Hudson has been working at 89-90 mph, and that isn't going to work at the highest level.
