Jonatan Clase was middling at the plate as a 21-year-old at Double-A, logging a 67.3 percent contact rate and .222 batting average to go along with 13 home runs and 62 steals in 108 games. His .331 on-base percentage and the resulting havoc he caused on the bases allowed the switch hitter to still impact the game regularly, despite being a below league average hitter (94 wRC+), and his speed will be the key to him being an impactful fantasy outfielder. Clase has 70-grade speed and likes to run, so that will always define his fantasy relevance. He came into the year with 33 home runs in 236 games above rookie ball, and it will be tough for him to hit more than 15 in a MLB season while playing half his games in Seattle. Clase has two minor-league option years remaining and was summoned from Triple-A early in 2024 after showing improved plate skills. If he is playing regularly, his speed makes him worthy of a flyer in roto leagues.

  • Mariners' Jonatan Clase: On bench again

Clase is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers. Clase will take a seat for a third straight game while the Mariners roll with Luke Raley and Mitch Haniger as their starters in the corner-outfield spots. Since being called up from Triple-A Tacoma on April 15, Clase has appeared in six games and has gone 5-for-20 with three RBI, one run and two stolen bases. The speedy 21-year-old initially looked on track to handle a regular role in the outfield following Dominic Canzone's (shoulder) placement on the injured list, but Clase may instead be part of a timeshare with Raley in left field.

  • Mariners' Jonatan Clase: Timely two-bagger Tuesday

Clase went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in a win over the Reds on Tuesday. Clase, who was just called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday, opened the scoring on the night with a timely double in the fourth inning that plated Mitch Garver. It was the rookie's second hit and RBI in as many big-league games, as he'd also knocked in a run via a single in his debut Monday. Clase has drawn starts in left field in his first two games, and he's expected to continue in a near-everyday role while Dominic Canzone (shoulder) is on the injured list.

  • Mariners' Jonatan Clase: Will receive regular playing time

Clase will start in left field and bat eighth in Monday's game versus the Reds. Clase will make his MLB debut after he was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma earlier Monday after outfielder Dominic Canzone (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. According to Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM, Mariners manager Scott Servais said Monday that Clase will play while he's with the big club, so it sounds like he could see the lion's share of starts in left field while Canzone is out. The 21-year-old has slashed .311/.396/.622 with two homers, three steals and a 12:7 K:BB with Tacoma this season and is worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues.

  • Mariners' Jonatan Clase: Recalled to big club

Clase was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma by the Mariners on Monday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Clase has hit .311/.396/.622 with two homers, three steals and a 12:7 K:BB over his first 12 games at Tacoma this season. The 21-year-old has experience at all three outfield spots and could see some corner outfield reps while Dominic Canzone (shoulder) is on the shelf. Clase will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game.

  • Mariners' Jonatan Clase: Reaches 30-steal mark at Double-A

Clase has a .222/.337/.429 slash line with nine home runs, 30 steals and a 30.5 percent strikeout rate in 53 games for Double-A Arkansas. The switch-hitting center fielder capitalized on the hitter-friendly park at High-A Everett and a fortunate .423 BABIP to slash .333/.453/.701 in 21 games for the AquaSox, but this run at Double-A is a more telling sample for the 21-year-old. His elite speed will keep him on the dynasty radar even when he is struggling at the dish, and Clase's patience and power at the plate takes some pressure off his hit tool.
