Sharrod Neasman: Activated from COVID list then cut
Neasman was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday prior to being waived by the Jets, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
The safety was placed on the COVID list Dec. 20, missing the Jets' last two contests while going through league protocols prior to being let go Saturday. Neasman will now either be claimed by another team, return to the Jets' practice squad or become a free agent.

Jets' Sharrod Neasman: Tests positive for COVID-19
Neasman (illness) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Neasman's addition to the COVID list comes on the heels of fellow free safety and starter Elijah Riley entering concussion protocols Monday. If Neasman can return in time for Sunday against the Jaguars and Riley cannot, Neasman will likely be looking at a significant increase in opportunity.

Neasman (hamstring) returned to practice off injured reserve Wednesday, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
The Jets will have three weeks to add Neasman to their active roster. If they don't, he will head back to IR for the remainder of the season. Coach Robert Saleh said it's possible the 29-year-old could be activated and make his Jets' debut during Sunday's game against the Titans. Neasman recorded 27 tackles and one sack across 16 appearances for the Falcons during the 2020 campaign.

Neasman (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Neasman was already slated to miss Sunday's season opener due to a hamstring injury, but he won't be eligible to return until at least Week 4 against the Titans. Adrian Colbert was elevated to the active roster Saturday to provide additional depth at safety in Sunday's Week 1 matchup against Carolina.

Neasman (hamstring) did not practice this week and is listed as out for Sunday's matchup against the Panthers.
Neasman's debut in New York will have to be delayed due to a hamstring injury. The UDFA out of Florida Atlantic suited up in all 16 games for the Falcons last season, totaling 289 defensive snaps and 300 special-teams snaps. The Jets are already thin at strong safety with Ashtyn Davis (undisclosed) and Zane Lewis (knee) on IR.

Neasman suited up in all 16 games with the Falcons last season, recording 27 tackles (19 solo) and a sack over that span. The Florida Atlantic product showed versatility last season, playing 289 snaps on defense and 300 on special teams. Look for the veteran to handle a similar role in New York should he make the roster out of training camp.

Falcons' Sharrod Neasman: Appears in all 16 games for Atlanta
Neasman, who registered four tackles during Atlanta's 44-27 Week 17 loss to the Buccaneers, wrapped up the 2020 campaign with 27 tackles and one sack over 16 games.
Neasman took on an enhanced defensive role as the year wore on, twice collecting 97-plus percent of the Falcons' defensive snaps over the final quarter of the regular season. Weeks 1 through 13, he only once garnered more than 40 percent of the workload, but injuries to Damontae Kazee (Achilles) and Darqueze Dennard (quadriceps) opened up secondary snaps down the stretch. Having played all 57 of his career NFL games as a member of the Falcons, Neasman will now prepare to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

Neasman collected eight tackles and a sack during Sunday's 31-27 loss to the Buccaneers.
Starting at free safety for a second consecutive game in place of the injured Ricardo Allen (concussion), Neasman finished behind only Deion Jones (10) in tackles among Falcons defenders. The 29-year-old's second-quarter sack of Tom Brady, meanwhile, forced a Tampa Bay punt. Despite Weeks 14 and 15 marking the first starts of Neasman's five-year career with Atlanta, he's held up reasonably well in coverage by containing opponents to a 89.6 passer rating over a limited sample of six targets.

Falcons' Sharrod Neasman: Returns to Falcons
Neasman signed a one-year contract with the Falcons on Friday, Jason Butt of The Athletic reports.
The 28-year-old became an unrestricted free agent earlier this week after totaling four tackles in 2019 while working primarily on special teams. Neasman figures to work in a similar role during the upcoming season, assuming he makes the 53-man roster.
