Seahawks' Riq Woolen: Tackling struggles in 2023
Woolen posted 53 tackles (42 solo), 11 pass breakups and two interceptions across 16 games during the 2023 regular season.
After posting 16 pass breakups and six interceptions, including a pick-six, during his rookie campaign, Woolen took a step back in both categories as a second-year corner. Woolen's tackling was an issue this season that will need to be addressed in 2024 under a new coaching regime, but the UTSA product has flashed enough upside the past two seasons to make him a strong favorite to start next year.

Seahawks' Riq Woolen: Sits due to injury
Woolen was benched for Mike Jackson in Thursday's 31-13 loss to the 49ers, but head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Friday that he felt as if Woolen's shoulder was simply not in a position to do what the team needed, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
Though the 24-year-old is dealing with a shoulder injury, the issue seems to be minor, as Carroll told reporters that he expects Woolen to return to his starting spot in Week 13 against the Cowboys. The second-year cornerback out of UTSA has had issues with tackling throughout the season, as he's had three or less tackles in seven of Seattle's 11 games thus far. Jackson could continue seeing increased work in the Seahawks' secondary if Woolen's shoulder issue continues to impair his ability to help the team's defense.

Seahawks' Riq Woolen: Snags interception in win
Woolen recorded two solo tackles, two pass deflections and an interception in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Browns.
Woolen was able to pick off PJ Walker in the second quarter, registering his first interception of the season. His two pass deflections were also a season high, and the cornerback is now up to 18 tackles with four pass deflections and the interception over six active games in 2023.

Seahawks' Riq Woolen: Practices Thursday
Woolen (chest) was a full participant in Seattle's practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
The cornerback injured his chest in Week 2 and then missed Week 3. The second-year pro made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and has four tackles in two starts this year. Woolen is on track to play Monday against the Giants.

Woolen (chest) has a good chance to return in Week 4 against the Giants, according to head coach Pete Carroll, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Woolen suffered the injury during the team's Week 2 win over the Lions and was forced to miss the Week 3 victory over the Panthers. His potential return would certainly be a boost for the Seattle secondary, which is still dealing with multiple injuries and added Tre Brown (concussion) to the list Sunday.

Woolen exited last week's victory over the Seahawks early after suffering a chest injury. Barring a quick turnaround, he does not appear on track to suit up. With Coby Bryant (toe) already ruled out, Tre Brown and Mike Jackson would be candidates for increased snaps should Woolen indeed get ruled out.
