Devils' Nico Daws: Up with Devils
Daws was recalled from AHL Utica on Monday. According to Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site, Akira Schmid is feeling under the weather. It appears as though Daws could suit up as the backup goalie behind Vitek Vanecek for Monday's contest against the Rangers.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Sent back to Utica
Daws was returned to AHL Utica Sunday. Daws was recalled as an emergency goaltending option Saturday following injuries to Mackenzie Blackwood (knee) and Vitek Vanecek (undisclosed). Daws made nine starts for New Jersey last season, going 6-1-0 with a .909 save percentage.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Recalled from AHL
Daws was recalled from AHL Utica on Saturday. Daws was recalled when Mackenzie Blackwood (knee) was placed on injured reserve Saturday. Daws was 1-3-0 with a 2.41 GAA and a .908 save percentage for the AHL Comets this season.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Team wins leader in 2021-22
Daws finished his first NHL season with a 10-11-1 record, 3.11 GAA and .893 save percentage. The rookie tied Mackenzie Blackwood for the most appearances in New Jersey's net with 25, and Daws remarkably led the team with 10 wins. Blackwood dealt with a heel injury for much of the season and should regain the top spot in New Jersey's net when healthy, but the 21-year-old Daws could push for a 1A-1B situation as soon as next season.... Devils' Nico Daws: Demoted to AHL
Daws was reassigned to AHL Utica on Wednesday. Daws' demotion suggests Mackenzie Blackwood (heel) may be nearing a return to action. Daws has gone 10-11-1 while posting a sub-par 3.11 GAA and .893 save percentage through 25 top-level appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Falls short in shootout
Daws allowed three goals on 26 shots in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Kraken. Daws and Philipp Grubauer posted identical stat lines through 65 minutes of play. The difference was a Ryan Donato goal that Daws allowed in the first round of the shootout, giving the 21-year-old netminder his first loss since April 5. He's at 10-11-1 with a 3.11 GAA and an .893 save percentage in 25 appearances in his rookie year. The Devils are set to wrap up their road trip Monday against the Golden Knights, which would likely be a much tougher matchup should Daws draw the start.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Guarding cage in Seattle
Daws will start Saturday's road game versus the Kraken, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports. Daws has won his last two appearances, allowing just three goals on 49 shots in that span versus the Stars and the Coyotes. He'll look to keep up the success on the road against the Kraken, who rank last in the Pacific Division, making this a favorable matchup for the 21-year-old netminder.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Picks up win
Daws allowed two goals on 21 shots in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Coyotes. Daws allowed Nick Schmaltz to tie the game late in the second period on a power-play goal, but the Devils fired back twice before the intermission. The Devils cruised from there, earning Daws consecutive wins for the first time in over a month. The 21-year-old goalie improved to 10-11-0 with a 3.13 GAA and an .893 save percentage in 24 contests. He's held off Andrew Hammond and Jon Gillies for playing time, but Mackenzie Blackwood (heel) is on this road trip and could be activated from injured reserve in the near future.... See More ... Devils' Nico Daws: Guarding cage in Arizona
Daws will guard the road goal Tuesday versus the Coyotes, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports. Daws snapped a three-start losing streak in his last appearance when he stopped 27 of 28 shots versus the Stars. The 21-year-old has seen a majority of the playing time for the Devils lately, and a matchup with the Coyotes is a highly favorable one for him to get a second straight win for the first time since March 6-8.... Devils' Nico Daws: Stifles Stars in road win
Daws made 27 saves in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Stars. The rookie goalie picked up his first win since March 27 in style, with only a power-play tally in the second period by Ryan Suter standing between him and his first NHL shutout. Daws has held up well in his first taste of the top level, all things considered, but the 21-year-old's 3.19 GAA and .893 save percentage still make him an unappealing fantasy option.... See More ... Devils' Nico Daws: Starting in Dallas
Daws will patrol the crease during Saturday's road game versus the Stars, Matthew DeFranks of The Dallas Morning News reports. Daws struggled in his last start Tuesday against the Rangers, surrendering three goals on just 17 shots en route to a 3-1 defeat. He'll try to snap his personal three-game losing streak in a road matchup with a Dallas team that's averaging 3.39 goals per game at home this year, ninth in the NHL.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Appears in relief
Daws replaced starter Andrew Hammond early in the third period of Thursday's 7-4 loss. He allowed one goal on seven shots. It was a tough night for Devils goalies -- the Habs were buzzing the Devils' net all game long. New Jersey has challenges in the twine tent, but Daws has shown as much potential as any of their many options this season. Even at 21 years of age. He will be hard-pressed to help you this season given the challenges the team faces, but he may be a longer-term investment if you're building for a few years down the road.... See More ... Devils' Nico Daws: Tough night against Rangers
Daws stopped 14 shots in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Rangers. The New Jersey defense did a good job keeping its end of the ice clear for its 21-year-old rookie netminder, but unfortunately the Devils couldn't stay out of the penalty box -- the first two New York goals both came on power plays, and Daws had no chance on either one. The Devils have three goalies on their roster right now but Daws is still getting the bulk of the work, going 5-10-0 over 15 outings since the beginning of March with a 3.58 GAA and .880 save percentage.... Devils' Nico Daws: Facing Rangers on Tuesday
Daws will get the starting nod at home against the Rangers on Tuesday. Daws is 2-6-0 with a rough 4.67 GAA and .857 save percentage over his last eight appearances. He's been impressive at home this season, posting a .914 save percentage alongside a 7-2-0 record. The 21-year-old is 1-1-0 against the Rangers with an .896 save percentage.... See More ... Devils' Nico Daws: Draws start Sunday
Daws will patrol the blue paint at home against the Islanders on Sunday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports. Daws was crushed for five goals on 20 shots against Boston on Thursday before he was pulled from the game. The 21-year-old rookie is now 8-9-0 with an .894 save percentage through 19 career NHL appearances. He's been impressive at home this season, sporting a .920 save percentage and a 2.34 GAA with a 7-1-0 record.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Never recovers after wobbly start
Daws gave up five goals on 20 shots before being pulled 9:01 into the second period of an eventual 8-1 loss to Boston on Thursday. It was his fifth straight start, so there's a chance some fatigue had set in. But things went off the rails less than a minute into the game on a wrist shot from the point. Daws and the Devils simply got knocked down and couldn't get back up. The team is now officially eliminated from playoff contention, so that could mean it starts playing loose and confident hockey. That would be a big benefit to all Jersey players, including Daws, who wants to prove he belongs in a permanent role with the big club for 2022-23.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Prevails in shootout win
Daws allowed two goals on 33 shots in Sunday's 3-2 shootout win over the Canadiens. Daws couldn't quite hold onto a 2-1 lead in regulation, allowing Rem Pitlick to score the equalizer with 42 seconds left in the third period. In overtime, a Mike Hoffman shot hit both posts and stayed out, leading to a shootout in which Daws outlasted Sam Montembeault through seven rounds. This win ended Daws' two-game skid, bringing him to 8-8-0 with a 3.05 GAA and a .900 save percentage in 18 outings this season. He should be well-rested for the Devils' next game Thursday versus the Bruins.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Guarding crease Sunday
Daws will get the starting nod at home against the Canadiens on Sunday. Daws has lost four of his last five starts, posting a brutal 4.87 GAA and .852 save percentage during that stretch. Sunday's game will be the fourth time that he's played in both legs of a back-to-back this season. The 21-year-old has fallen to 7-8-0 with an .897 save percentage through 17 career NHL games.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Nico Daws: Set to start Saturday
Daws is slated to be between the pipes on the road against Washington on Saturday, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. Daws has played in 13 of the Devils' last 15 contests, having posted a 6-6-0 record and 2.97 GAA over that stretch. The youngster's hold on the starting job should be considered tenuous at best as Andrew Hammond (lower body) will likely take over the starting job once given the all-clear.... See More ... See Less
