Matinpalo signed a one-year, entry-level contract with Ottawa on Thursday.
Matinpalo scored seven goals and 16 points in 51 contests with Assat of Finland's SM-liiga. The 24-year-old wasn't drafted by an NHL team and hasn't played professionally in North America yet. He might start the 2023-24 campaign in the AHL.... See More ... See Less
Senators' Jiri Smejkal: Signs one-year entry-level contract
Smejkal signed a one-year, entry-level contract with Ottawa on Friday.
The 26-year-old winger spent two seasons in the WHL, back in 2014-15 and the following year, but was never drafted. Smejkal had 23 goals and 43 points in 49 games with Oskarshamn IK of the Swedish League in 2022-23. He has an opportunity to make the Senators next season as a bottom-six forward.... See More ... Senators' Thomas Chabot: Suffered broken wrist
Chabot suffered a broken wrist and torn ligament March 27, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.

Senators' Anton Forsberg: Looking for July return to ice
Forsberg (knees) is expecting to return to the ice in full equipment come July, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Forsberg underwent surgery on both knees in February and stated that he could return to the ice at this time but wanted to strengthen his knees even more. Norris (shoulder) is looking to start skating next month, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Norris was plagued by shoulder issues all season, and he finally decided on surgery in late January after playing only eight games. Norris said that his shoulder is feeling good. Giroux scored his 35th goal of the season in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Sabres.
His tally midway through the second period gave Ottawa a 3-2 lead, but the team couldn't hold it. Giroux was rejuvenated by his move to the Senators -- the 35-year-old's 35 goals are a career high, topping the 34 he scored back in 2017-18 for Philly, and his 79 points is his best total since 2018-19.... Stutzle scored a power-play goal and added an even-strength assist in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Sabres.
Both points came in the second period as Ottawa roared back from a 2-0 deficit to take the lead, but Buffalo weathered the storm and regained the momentum in the third. Sogaard has appeared in 18 games for the Senators this season in which he posted an 8-6-2 record, 3.29 GAA and .889 save percentage. Stutzle picked up an assist on Claude Giroux's opening tally in the first period before adding a goal later in the frame, burying a feed from Giroux to give Ottawa a 2-0 lead. Stutzle now has a goal and three assists in his last two games after going scoreless in his previous four contests.
