  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Fans seven in win

Cabrera (1-0) allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings Sunday, striking out seven and earning a win over the Cubs.

Cabrera followed up his impressive season debut with his first win of 2024. He gave up all three runs through the first four frames and showed signs of his well-known command issues with the three free passes. Still, he's produced an impressive 17:4 K:BB with a 3.27 ERA through 11 innings. Cabrera forced 12 swinging strikes Sunday, with six coming via the changeup. His next start is lined up to be at home against the Nationals.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Outstanding in 2024 debut

Cabrera (shoulder) didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Giants, striking out 10 while allowing one run on five hits and one walk across six innings.

Cabrera showed no signs of rust in his first MLB appearance since last September, recording double-digit strikeouts for the third time in his career and firing first-pitch strikes to 19 of the 22 batters he faced. After a lengthy rehab stint to open up 2024, Cabrera threw 91 pitches and didn't allow a single extra-base hit to the Giants. While he wasn't able to pick up the win -- something that could continue considering the Marlins' 3-14 record -- Cabrera will provide plenty of fantasy value if he maintains this form. He's lined up for another start Sunday against the Cubs.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Coming off IL to start Monday

Cabrera (shoulder) will be activated from the injured list and start Monday against the Giants, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The plan had been for Cabrera to make one more rehab start, but he'll make his season debut Monday instead after A.J. Puk had to be pushed back due to illness. Cabrera has been on the shelf with a right shoulder impingement but pitched well in three rehab starts, allowing two runs (one earned) with a 12:8 K:BB over 12.2 frames. The righty went 5.2 innings and threw 82 pitches in his last rehab outing, so he should be able to handle a relatively normal workload Monday.
