Jermaine Kearse: Announces end to career
Kearse (leg) announced Tuesday in a post on his personal Instagram account that he has retired from professional football.
After going undrafted out of Washington in 2012, Kearse went on to spend eight seasons in the NFL with the Seahawks, Jets and Lions, totaling 255 receptions for 3,291 yards and 17 touchdowns. The most notable moments of the 30-year-old receiver's career came in Seattle's back-to-back Super Bowl trips in 2013 and 2014. He notched four receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown in Seattle's Super Bowl 48 win over the Broncos and recorded a highlight-reel catch on the Seahawks' final drive of their eventual Super Bowl 49 loss to the Patriots. While with the Lions in 2019, Kearse missed the entire season with a broken leg suffered in a preseason contest, and he ultimately didn't find an opportunity with another team after hitting the open market in March.

Lions' Jermaine Kearse: Placed on IR
Kearse (foot) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
It seemed evident upon replay of the injury that Kearse would miss an extended amount of time, so this designation shouldn't come as much of a shock. The veteran wide receiver was expected to have a significant role in the passing attack behind Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones and Danny Amendola, but that will now fall into the hands of relative newcomers Tommylee Lewis, Brandon Powell or Andy Jones.

Lions' Jermaine Kearse: Suffers serious injury
Kearse was diagnosed with a broken leg after he was carted off the field during Thursday's preseason game against the Patriots, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Kearse had to be carted off the field with an air cast, so there were signs it could be a serious injury. It what was supposed to be a bounce-back season for the veteran, he'll know be facing a lengthy rehab process. Tommylee Lewis and Andy Jones could stand to benefit as long as Kearse is sidelined.

Lions' Jermaine Kearse: Suffers leg injury
Kearse was carted off the field Thursday against the Patriots with his leg in an air cast, Nora Princiotti of The Boston Globe reports.
In general, air casts are used to stabilize serious injuries, so Kearse may be facing a lengthy rehab effort. However, the Lions have yet to release the nature of the issue.

Lions' Jermaine Kearse: Signs one-year deal
Kearse agreed Thursday with the Lions on a one-year, $1.35 million deal, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Despite being 29 years old and just two seasons removed from an 800-yard campaign, Kearse settled for a one-year contract from a team that already has its top-three wideout spots solidified with Kenny Golladay (chest), Marvin Jones (knee) and Danny Amendola. Coming off an ugly 2018 campaign with just 4.9 yards per target, Kearse may need to battle Tommylee Lewis, Andy Jones and Brandon Powell for the No. 4 spot on Detroit's depth chart. Kearse reunites with Lions offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who held the same position in Seattle from 2011 to 2017.
