Fumagalli was released from San Francisco's practice squad in September but will now get another opportunity with the Vikings. The 2018 fifth-round pick has not appeared in a regular season game since 2020 where he played in eight games for the Broncos.

The Wisconsin product appeared in 19 games from 2019 to 2020, totaling 14 catches for 118 yards and two scores, but he hasn't played in a regular-season game since. The 49ers have one of the better tight end corps in the NFL, so Fumagalli likely won't get many chances in 2023.

Fumagalli has suited up for 19 games with the Broncos in his NFL career, with 14 catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns in that span. Fumagalli hauled in six passes for 38 yards and a touchdown during his first active NFL campaign with the Broncos in 2019. He then re-signed with Denver last November, after spending time on Houston's practice squad to begin last season. The 26-year-old will now have an opportunity to seek a contract on the open market, though Denver may keep Fumagalli on its short list of potential backup options, should the team's depth at tight end take a hit at any point in 2021.

Fumagalli caught eight of 15 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in eight games during the 2020 season.
Fumagalli -- who entered the league as a fifth-round pick by Denver in 2018 -- returned to his original team following a stint with the Texans practice quad, after a rash of injuries hit the Broncos' tight-end room. He showed some flashes, including a four-catch outing against Carolina. Injuries derailed Fumagalli's first go-around in Denver, but -- depending on what the team does in the offseason -- he might be worth bringing back as a TE3 behind Noah Fant and Albert Okwuegbunam in 2021.

Fumagalli caught two of three targets for 15 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 32-31 loss to Las Vegas.
Fumagalli was responsible for Denver's first touchdown late in the first quarter, slipping out into the back of the end zone off of play action for a one-yard score, his first of the season. He struggled with injuries during his first go-round in Denver but provided some nice performances with the Broncos thin at tight end down the stretch. Fumagalli produced a 4-53-0 line in last week's win over the Panthers, but he fell out of favor this week with Noah Fant handling a full workload. Still, it's intriguing that he out-snapped Nick Vannett by a 19-16 margin, as he's putting together a case to stay with the team for the 2021 season.

Fumagalli caught four of five targets for 53 yards during Sunday's 32-27 win over Carolina.
He did the bulk of his damage late in the third quarter when, facing second and long, Drew Lock dropped a tight-end screen to Fumagalli, who cut upfield for a 29-yard gain and near-touchdown. The Wisconsin product wasn't even on the roster a few weeks ago, but he was able to exceed his previous career total in receiving yards Sunday with Noah Fant (illness) exiting early and the overall poor injury luck of the Broncos' tight-end room. Fant reportedly is likely to go Saturday against a tough Buffalo defense, so it would be a surprise if Fumagalli enjoys another five-target afternoon.

Broncos' Troy Fumagalli: Signs with active roster
Fumagalli was promoted from the practice squad Saturday as he has maxed out his two game-day elevation, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Fumagalli has played in four consecutive games with the Broncos now and is officially part of the 53-man roster. The tight end has caught two of his six targets for 12 yards throughout his last four games. The 25-year-old will likely continue playing a minimal role as long as Noah Fant and Nick Vannett remain healthy.
