Red Wings' Alex DeBrincat: Heads to Detroit in sign-and-trade
Ottawa traded DeBrincat to Detroit on Sunday in exchange for Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango, a conditional 2024 first-round draft pick and a 2024 fourth-round draft pick. The Red Wings then signed DeBrincat to a four-year, $31.5 million contract extension.
DeBrincat spent one year with the Senators before hitting restricted free agency this offseason. After a 27-goal, 66-point campaign, he and Ottawa were too far apart on a deal, so he'll pack his bags for Detroit. The 25-year-old winger is among the league's best goal scorers; he's buried 100 goals in 216 games over the last three seasons. DeBrincat will fill a top-six role, likely on the top line alongside Dylan Larkin, with a spot on the top power-play unit.

His first goal came on a wrist shot on a 3-on-1 rush in the first, and then he got another about two-and-a-half minutes later when he fought off Zach Bogosian and flicked the puck past Brian Elliott. DeBrincat hadn't scored since March 9, ending a nine-game goal drought. He hasn't had the offensive season he, the Sens or fantasy managers had expected (23 goals, 36 assists; 72 games). Almost half of his points (27) have come on the power play. DeBrincat needs to be more than a power-play specialist to help his team.

The game got very chippy very quickly, and DeBrincat took advantage of Ottawa power plays in the first and second periods after Detroit had already fallen behind 3-1. He potted the goal that forced OT with just 88 seconds left in the third period, blasting home a feed from Tim Stutzle, then returned the favor by springing Stutzle for the game-winner with just under two minutes left in the extra frame. After slumping to begin the new year with just three points (two goals and a helper) in the first 12 games of January. DeBrincat has turned things around with a four-game point streak, finding the back of the net in three of them.

Senators' Alex DeBrincat: Timely snipes in Tuesday's win
DeBrincat scored his 11th goal of the season and had the only successful attempt in the shootout during Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Bruins.
He got a partial breakaway from the Boston blue line midway through the second period and didn't squander the chance, beating Jeremy Swayman to give Ottawa a 2-1 lead, then fooled the netminder again in the first round of the shootout with a deke to his backhand. DeBrincat has found the scoresheet in 11 of the last 12 games, racking up five goals and 16 points over that stretch as the 25-year-old continues to thrive in his first season with the Senators.
