Sabres' Matthew Savoie: Sustains shoulder injury
Savoie suffered a shoulder injury in Buffalo's prospects game Monday versus Pittsburgh, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Savoie is expected to miss at least some of training camp, which would put his chances of making the NHL roster in jeopardy. The 19-year-old had 95 points in 62 games with WHL Winnipeg last season, and if he doesn't make the Sabres' roster out of camp, he'll be assigned back to the junior franchise, which relocated to Wenatchee, Washington in the offseason. Savoie does not have an exception to jump immediately to the AHL.

Sabres' Matthew Savoie: Joining AHL
Savoie was assigned to the AHL Rochester on Sunday.
Savoie, the ninth overall pick in 2022, tallied 38 goals and 95 points in 62 games this season with the Winnipeg Ice in the WHL. The 19-year-old Savoie will now join AHL Rochester for the Calder Cup semifinals. A strong showing from the young center could put Savoie in the mix for a roster spot with Buffalo in 2023-24.

Sabres' Matthew Savoie: Looking good in training camp
Savoie is impressing coach Don Granato in training camp, according to Buffalo Hockey Beat.
Savoie was the Sabres' first pick and ninth overall in the 2022 Entry Draft and has impressed Granato with his skill level so much so that the coach used him between Kyle Okposo and Casey Mittelstadt in Thursday's win over the Flyers. Savoie had 35 goals and 90 points last season with the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL and is expected to be even better when the Sabres return him to junior hockey in the foreseeable future.
