Williams hasn't seen the field since Week 3, when he played 32 defensive snaps and nine snaps on special teams against the Bengals. He registered three tackles (two solo) and one pass defensed in that contest.

Trevor Williams: Cut from IR
The Eagles cut Williams (ribs) from injured reserve Tuesday.
Williams only played two games this season, as he's been dealing with a rib injury of late. Once he's healthy, he'll look for a new team. The 27-year-old cornerback hasn't been consistent in coverage during his career, but he should be able to carve out at least a special-teams role.

The Eagles placed Williams (ribs) on injured reserve Saturday.
Williams didn't practice all week and was already ruled out for Sunday's game against the 49ers, but now he'll be on the shelf until the Week 7 matchup against the Giants, at the earliest. He appeared set for a larger role because Avonte Maddox (ankle) won't play Sunday, but now Cre'von LeBlanc will be required to step up behind starters Darius Slay and Nickell Robey-Coleman.

Eagles' Trevor Williams: Headed for larger role
Williams is expected to handle increased defensive snaps with Avonte Maddox (ankle) nursing a one- to two-week injury, Daniel Gallen of PennLive.com reports.
Williams was activated from the practice squad ahead of Week 3's tie against the Bengals, and he ultimately handled 44 percent of defensive snaps after Maddox was forced out with an ankle injury. The 27-year-old hasn't handled a full season as a starter since playing 1,006 defensive snaps with the Chargers in 2017, but his experience makes him the favorite to line up across from Darius Slay as long as Maddox remains sidelined.

Eagles' Trevor Williams: Activated from practice squad
Williams was promoted to the Eagles' active roster Thursday.
Williams hasn't seen a full season of action since 2017 with the Chargers, when he played over 1,000 snaps on defense, picking up 56 combined tackles, 13 passes defended and two interceptions. He's now set to provide depth in the Philadelphia secondary with potential for a role on special teams as well.

The injury woes -- SS Derwin James is also on injured reserve -- continue in the Chargers' secondary. Williams would be able to return after eight weeks, but the team will likely opt to bring back James if forced to make a choice.
