Jaret Patterson: Gets new opportunity
Patterson signed with the Chargers' practice squad Wednesday.
Patterson spent camp with the Commanders, as well as the previous two seasons, but was unable to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. He'll now be an emergency option for Los Angeles, while he tries to earn a permanent spot on their active roster.

Jaret Patterson: Let go by Washington
The Commanders are slated to waive Patterson on Monday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Patterson made a case for a spot on Washington's final roster when he turned eight carries into 51 yards in the team's preseason finale, but he nonetheless will be subject to waivers before searching for an opportunity elsewhere. However, Patterson could have earned himself a call back via the practice squad.

Commanders' Jaret Patterson: Makes final case for spot
Patterson took eight carries for 51 yards in Saturday's 21-19 preseason loss to the Bengals.
Patterson was the third back into the game, after Chris Rodriguez and Jonathan Williams, on a night that saw both Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson rested. Patterson thus appears unlikely to have a spot on the Week 1 roster, perhaps sticking around via the practice squad instead.

Commanders' Jaret Patterson: Leading rusher against Dallas
Patterson carried the ball 17 times for 78 yards and failed to catch his only target in Sunday's 26-6 win over the Cowboys.
Brian Robinson (knee) was inactive for the Commanders' season finale, so Patterson found himself as the primary option in the team's backfield after not getting a touch through the first 17 weeks, and he used the opportunity to establish a new career high in rushing yards for the game. Robinson's strong second half all but ensures he'll be the team's top RB in 2023, but if Antonio Gibson (knee/foot) gets moved in the offseason, Patterson could enter next season in the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, giving the 2021 undrafted free agent some possible deep-league fantasy intrigue.

Commanders' Jaret Patterson: One of two healthy RBs
Patterson is one of two healthy running backs on Washington's roster ahead of Sunday's matchup with Dallas, Ethan Cadeaux of NBC Sports Washington reports.
The other is journeyman Jonathan Williams, who was the No. 3 back behind Brian Robinson (knee) and Antonio Gibson (knee/foot) for most of December. With Gibson missing the final two games of the season and Robinson out for the last game, Patterson has been called up from the practice squad the past two weeks for the first time since mid-November. The 2021 undrafted free agent is thus in line to get his first touches since Week 17 of last season, when he replaced an injured Gibson and tallied 98 total yards (plus a touchdown) as the starting running back. The Commanders also have Reggie Bonnafon as an option at running back after signing him to the practice squad Thursday.

Commanders' Jaret Patterson: Bumps up to 53-man roster
The Commanders signed Patterson from the practice squad to their active roster Thursday, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports.
With fellow running backs Antonio Gibson (knee) and J.D. McKissic (neck) both on injured reserve and Brian Robinson (knee) currently listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Patterson could find himself working in a backfield committee alongside Jonathan Williams in Week 18. The 23-year-old has seen game action on two separate occasions this campaign but has yet to register an offensive rep.

Jaret Patterson: Returns to practice squad
Patterson reverted to the Commanders' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Patterson received the elevation for Sunday's loss to the Browns with Antonio Gibson (knee) inactive. The 23-year-old never the saw the field on offense, but he did handle return duties, totaling 70 yards on three opportunities. Whether he receives an opportunity to play Week 18 against the Cowboys will likely depend on whether Gibson plays.

Commanders' Jaret Patterson: Joins active roster
Patterson was elevated from the Commanders' practice squad Saturday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
It'll be interesting to see if Patterson gets any work as a returner given he's replacing the injured Antonio Gibson (knee). Either way, the second-year undrafted running back should see some snaps in general as the third option behind Brian Robinson and Jonathan Williams.

Jaret Patterson: Likely to be elevated Week 17
Patterson is expected to be elevated to the active roster with Commanders' No. 2 running back Antonio Gibson (knee/foot) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Browns, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Patterson was previously bumped up from the practice squad for the Commanders' Week 4 win over the Eagles. However, the second-year running ultimately played just four special-teams snaps in that contest, so he'll likely slot into a similar role behind Brian Robinson and Jonathan Williams.

Jaret Patterson: Heads back to practice squad
Patterson reverted back to the Commanders' practice squad Tuesday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Patterson made his first NFL appearance in 2022 in Week 10 against the Eagles, but he ultimately played just four special-teams snaps in the contest. The 22-year-old will now transition back to Washington's practice squad as an emergency running back depth option, though he could receive another promotion to the team's 53-man roster if either J.D. McKissic (neck) or Jonathan Williams (knee) are unable to gain medical clearance in time for Sunday's game in Houston.
