Raiders' Brian Hoyer: Favorite for backup role
Hoyer is the favorite to win the backup job to Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) and will be part of the team's quarterback rotation at OTAs, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
Hoyer signed a two-year deal with the Raiders in April with the expectation that he would earn the backup job. It's a role that could be fairly significant if Garoppolo is not recovered from foot surgery by Week 1, although he is expected to be. Hoyer played under head coach Josh McDaniels in New England and should be familiar with the team's offense.

Raiders' Brian Hoyer: Inks with Raiders
The Raiders signed Hoyer to a two-year contract Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Hoyer spent the last three years in New England, and he now reunites with coach Josh McDaniels in Las Vegas. The 37-year-old quarterback looks primed to operate as the top backup to Jimmy Garoppolo, though that could potentially change depending on the team's actions in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.

Brian Hoyer: Let go by Patriots
The Patriots have released Hoyer, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Following the release of Hoyer, Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe are the two quarterbacks currently on the Patriots' roster. Now that he's presumably past the concussion that landed him on IR last season, the 37-year-old Hoyer could potentially land a backup gig ahead of the coming season.

Patriots' Brian Hoyer: Set to be cut
Hoyer (concussion) is expected to be released by the Patriots before March 15, Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports.
It's a bit of a surprising move given the Patriots wouldn't actually save any money by releasing the long-time veteran. Given the relative youth of both Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe, the expected two remaining QBs on the roster, it's entirely possible New England could opt to add an additional veteran if Hoyer is released, as has been reported.
