  • Kurt Coleman: Still looking for team

Coleman remains without a team as of early July and the Bills have elected not to bring him back for a second season, Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News reports.

The Buffalo brass loves its old Carolina connections, but Coleman appeared past his prime last season and at 32 years of age his best bet will likely be in a backup role with a new team in need of secondary depth. The Bills aren't in that boat any more following some offseason signings and draft picks the last couple of years. Coleman finished 2019 with just three tackles and no interceptions on 70 defense snaps, as he was clearly just an insurance safety that ended up helping out on special teams.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Upgrades to full practice

Coleman (hamstring) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.

Coleman appears to have recovered from the hamstring issue that caused him to miss Week 9's win over Washington. The veteran is on track to play his usual depth role behind starting safeties Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde during Sunday's tilt in Cleveland.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Limited for week's first practice

Coleman, who missed Sunday's game against Washington due to a hamstring injury, was listed as limited for Wednesday's practice session, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Coleman isn't desperately needed so long as stud starters Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde are healthy and doing their thing, but should injury befall one of those two, the Bills would become pretty reliant on a healthy Coleman, who's well versed in Sean McDermott's defense stemming from their Carolina days. Wednesday's practice was a step in the right direction for the veteran.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Inactive against Washington

Coleman (hamstring) is inactive Week 9 against the Redskins.

Despite logging limited practices all week, Coleman will miss his second consecutive contest, leaving roughly a 20-snap void across various special teams formations.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Questionable for Week 9

Coleman (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game versus Washington.

Coleman worked as a limited participant this week and appears on track to play Week 9. The veteran safety has played only five defensive snaps in six games as he's mostly been limited to special teams.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Gets some work in

Coleman, who missed Sunday's loss to the Eagles due to a hamstring injury, was limited for Wednesday's practice, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

That's a step up for the veteran after he was ruled out for Week 7 on Sunday morning (he sported a questionable designation after last week's practices). If he can keep trending toward the healthy side, Coleman will serve as a depth and special teams option for Sunday's game against Washington.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Sitting out Sunday

Coleman (hamstring) is officially inactive for Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Coleman made an appearance on the practice field for the first time all week Friday in a limited fashion. He is usually held to a reserve role, so his absence will give Dean Marlow and Jaquan Johnson the opportunity to see more special teams action Sunday.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Upgrades to LP

Coleman (hamstring) was a limited participant in Friday's practice.

Coleman got onto the practice field for the first time Friday, and now he's considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles. If he's unable to go, his absence would mainly affect special teams.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Misses Wednesday's practice

Coleman sat out Wednesday's first practice of the week due to a hamstring injury, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Coleman suffered the injury in the second quarter of Sunday's win over Miami and didn't play the entire second half. Coleman is still looking for his first tackle of the 2019 season even though he's played in all six games for the team, mostly as a special teams player.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Gets hurt Sunday

Coleman (hamstring) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.

It's unclear how the reserve safety suffered the injury, but he was forced to leave the game late in the second quarter. As long as Coleman is sidelined, Dean Marlowe and Jaquan Johnson will be in line to see extra depth safety snaps.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Quick return to Buffalo

Coleman re-signed with Buffalo on Sunday, one day after being released from the team, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Coleman likely never made it to the tarmac, as the Bills used some slick roster maneuvering to bring the veteran quickly back to the roster, where he's expected to serve as the third safety behind stalwart starters Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde.

  • Kurt Coleman: Let go by Buffalo

The Bills released Coleman on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Coleman had hopes for a depth role in the Buffalo defense, after fellow safety Rafael Bush decided to retire. Per Rapoport, his release could be short lived, as the team could bring Coleman back as early as Sunday following the flurry of roster moves. If that doesn't transpire, the veteran still has the ability to add quality depth to another team elsewhere.

  • Bills' Kurt Coleman: Reunites with McDermott

Coleman signed with Buffalo on Friday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Veteran safety Rafael Bush has decided to retire, so as they often do, GM Brandon Beane and coach Sean McDermott first turned to their Carolina rolodex. Consequently, Coleman will shuffle off to Buffalo, likely to serve in the same depth role Bush was pegged for. Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer are one of the top safety tandems in the league, though given Coleman's decent resume and familiarity with McDermott's defense, he could quickly move his way into an important depth role behind the starters.

  • Kurt Coleman: Being released by Saints

Coleman is being released by the Saints, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reports.

Coleman was due over $5 million in 2019, which is a tad high for a 30-year-old backup safety. The Ohio State product could still serve as serviceable depth somewhere else around the league, though, just at a lower price tag.

  • Saints' Kurt Coleman: Lands in Big Easy

The Saints signed Coleman on Monday, Joel A. Erickson of The Baton Rouge Advocate reports.

Coleman has progressed from a seventh-round selection of the Eagles in 2009 to a regular starting safety with three separate organizations. He spent the last three seasons with the Panthers, averaging 6.2 tackles per game while notching 11 interceptions (two for touchdowns) and two sacks in 42 contests. None of those picks and sacks happened in 2017, though, as he tended to a number of injuries. Cut loose at the end of February, Coleman will effectively replace unrestricted free agent Kenny Vaccaro, who earned the third-most defensive snaps (65.2 percent) among Saints safeties last year behind Marcus Williams (90.5) and Vonn Bell (74.2).

  • Kurt Coleman: Will be cut by Carolina

The Panthers informed Coleman on Monday that he would be released, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Coleman, a starting safety for the Panthers, missed four regular-season contests in 2017 due to knee and ankle injuries, finishing the campaign with 76 total tackles (51 solo), three pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Though Coleman's performance amounted to a step back from the previous two seasons, Carolina's decision to cut him has more to do with clearing cap space than anything, as the 29-year-old carried a $5.25 million cap hit for 2018. Coleman should have no problem finding work elsewhere given the leadership and experience he's shown in the secondary during his nine-year NFL career.
