Pittsburgh designated Riley (ankle) for return from its injured reserve list Tuesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports. In a corresponding move, Trenton Thompson was signed to the team's 53-man roster after being elevated from the practice squad each of the last two weeks.

  • Jets' Elijah Riley: Enters concussion protocol

Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Riley has been placed in the NFL's concussion protocol, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Riley's diagnosis comes as no surprise after he was stretchered off the field upon suffering a neck injury in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. Fortunately, he checked out fine after the contest and had full motion of his extremities, so clearing the five-step concussion protocol will be his main focus as he aims to return to game action. Saleh said he expects Riley to return at some point over the Jets' final three games, perhaps even as soon as the team's Week 16 matchup with Jacksonville.
