  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Reworks deal with Panthers

Thomas agreed to a restructured contract with the Panthers on Thursday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports. Thomas signed a three-year extension in the 2022 offseason, and his reworked deal will help Carolina's cap flexibility. He's expected to occupy a backup role after the Panthers signed fellow tight end Hayden Hurst to a three-year contract Wednesday.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: No touchdowns in 2022

Thomas caught 21 of 30 targets for 197 yards while playing all 17 games in the 2022 season. Thomas filled his usual blocking role while sharing the tight-end targets alongside Tommy Tremble for a second straight year. While Thomas' production over the past four seasons hasn't changed much, he notably hasn't scored since 2020. Despite the possibility of a new coaching staff and starting quarterback in 2023, it's hard to envision Thomas' value shifting significantly.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Catches one pass in loss

Thomas caught his only target for nine yards in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Buccaneers. Thomas was a non-factor in the contest while playing 36 of the Panthers' 66 offensive snaps. Fellow tight end Tommy Tremble played two more snaps than Thomas and was more productive, catching all three of his targets for 33 yards and a touchdown. In a near-even split of playing time with Tremble, Thomas offers little in the way of fantasy production. The 26-year-old will look to make the most of his limited opportunities on offense in a Week 18 matchup with the Saints.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Catches one pass

Thomas caught one of three targets for 12 yards in Week 16's 37-23 win over the Lions. Thomas broke his three-game multi-catch streak but has still hauled in at least one pass in all 15 appearances this season. He'll strive to keep that streak going Sunday versus the Buccaneers.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Set to play Saturday

Thomas (thigh) was a full participant during practice Thursday and does not carry an injury designation ahead of Saturday versus Detroit. Thomas popped up with a thigh injury and logged back-to-back limited sessions to begin Week 16 prep. However, the 26-year-old is still in line to play his 14th game in a row this season. Thomas has caught 19 passes on 26 targets for 176 yards in 2022, and he should reprise his role as the Panthers' No. 2 tight end Tommy Tremble.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Makes two grabs

Thomas caught both of his targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 30-24 win over the Seahawks. Thomas has now made multiple receptions in three straight games. Although he's totaled just 56 yards over that span, he's at least occasionally helped Carolina connect on underneath throws.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Makes two grabs

Thomas caught both of his targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 23-10 win over the Broncos. Thomas played despite missing practice Thursday and Friday due to illness. In suiting up, the veteran was able to put together a second straight game with multiple catches, sending him into Carolina's bye week on a decent note.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Good to go Sunday

Thomas (illness) is officially active for Sunday's game against the Broncos. Thomas received the questionable tag after he sat out practice Thursday and Friday with an illness, but he's been cleared to take the field Sunday. The 26-year-old caught three of four targets for 24 yards last week in Baltimore, and he's largely been unproductive in the passing game this season despite operating as Carolina's No. 1 tight end.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Questionable due to illness

Thomas (illness) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Broncos. Thomas was unable to practice Thursday or Friday. If he doesn't feel better by Sunday, Thomas will likely cede the starting role at tight end to Tommy Tremble. Fellow tight end Stephen Sullivan is also questionable due to an illness.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Tagged as questionable

Thomas (illness) was listed as a non-participant on Thursday's practice report. Thomas was a new addition to the team's injury report Thursday. If he is unable to recover from his illness in time to play Sunday against the Broncos, Tommy Tremble will take back over the No. 1 tight end role, while Stephen Sullivan will likely be looking at an uptick in work.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Catches three passes

Thomas caught three of four targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 13-3 loss to the Ravens. Thomas' three catches marked a season high while his yardage total was his highest since Week 1. Despite still carrying low value ahead of this Sunday's matchup versus the Broncos, Thomas at least put together a decent performance by his standards in Week 11.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Makes one grab

Thomas caught his only target for two yards in Sunday's 37-34 overtime loss to the Falcons. Thomas and Tommy Tremble had nearly identical snap counts, yet the second-year pro finished with two grabs on four looks for 17 yards. With only four multi-catch outings this season, however, Thomas' spare usage in the passing game shouldn't come as a surprise.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Catches only look

Thomas caught his only target for three yards in Sunday's 21-3 win over the Buccaneers. Thomas has finished with either one or two receptions in every game this season. However, in topping 20 yards only twice and not yet finding the end zone through seven games, he carries minimal fantasy value.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Two more grabs Sunday

Thomas caught both his targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Rams. While it was a very modest yardage total, it was good for the best performance of the day by any Panther not named Christian McCaffrey. Thomas has yet to haul in more than two catches or see more than three targets in a game this season, and the team's revolving door at quarterback -- Jacob Eason took over for P.J. Walker (neck) in the second half Sunday -- won't improve the tight end's chances of taking a step forward heading into a Week 7 tilt against the Buccaneers.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Makes two catches

Thomas caught both of his targets for eight yards in Sunday's 37-15 loss to the 49ers. Thomas has now failed to top 15 receiving yards in any of his last four games, emphasizing his restricted value as more of a blocking tight end.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Set to play Sunday

Thomas (ankle) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against Arizona. Thomas was limited in practice all week due to an ankle injury, but the issue won't prevent him from suiting up in Week 4. Over the first three games of the season, he's secured five of nine targets for 79 yards.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Limited again

Thomas (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday. Thomas played his typical percentage of snaps Sunday against the Saints, but he apparently picked up an injury along the way, which has left him limited for the Panthers' last two practices. If Thomas is unable to go Sunday against the Cardinals, Tommy Tremble will step into the starting role.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Limited Wednesday

Thomas (ankle) was limited in Wednesday's practice. Thomas has handled 60-plus percent of offensive snaps in all three of Carolina's games this season, but he's yet to log more than two catches in a contest. He has two more chances to upgrade his activity level ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Makes two catches

Thomas caught two of three targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 22-14 win over the Saints. Thomas played the most snaps of Carolina's tight ends and actually tied with a few others for the team lead in receptions. Overall, though, he represents a low-upside option in the passing game, especially with quarterback Baker Mayfield yet to breakthrough as a Panther.

  • Panthers' Ian Thomas: Just one grab

Thomas caught one of three targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 19-16 loss to the Giants. Thomas' Week 2 performance was more characteristic of his career than his 53-yard output to open the campaign. The veteran holds tepid value as someone down the pecking order in an underwhelming passing attack so far.
