  • Panthers' Trevin Wallace: Carolina bound in third round

The Panthers selected Wallace in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 72nd overall.

Wallace might be a little more toolsy than skilled for the time being, but at the very least, the Kentucky standout is a memorable athlete at linebacker. At 6-foot-1, 237 pounds Wallace logged a 4.51-second 40-yard dash to go with a 37.5-inch vertical and 127-inch broad jump. Wallace might even have some edge-rushing potential thanks to his blitz-friendly skill set (5.5 sacks in 2023). For now, though, Wallace will likely back up both Shaq Thompson and Josey Jewell.

  • Panthers' Jonathon Brooks: Carolina picks up in second round

The Panthers selected Brooks (knee) in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 46th overall.

All indications are that the recovery is going well, but the most pressing question for Brooks (6-feet, 216 pounds) is how soon he might be 100 percent healthy after suffering an ACL tear November 11. Once he's healthy, the Texas standout will likely be favored for playing time at running back for Carolina, though evidence of him having more ability than either Chuba Hubbard or Miles Sanders is a bit scarce in the meantime. Where Brooks might carve out most of his immediate fantasy value is on passing downs, as he definitely has better pass-catching ability than either Hubbard or Sanders. That skill could particularly serve as a path to snaps, considering the Panthers should spend plenty of time trying to catch up in the second halves of games again in 2024.

  • Panthers' Jonathan Mingo: Bumps down the depth chart

With the Panthers' selection of Xavier Legette with the No. 32 overall pick Thursday night, Mingo is pushed down the wide receiver depth chart, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Carolina has made it a point to upgrade its wideout room this offseason, first trading for Diontae Johnson before then trading up into the final pick of the first round for Legette. Adding those two to veteran slot man Adam Thielen pushes both Mingo and Terrace Marshall down in the pecking order for targets. Mingo -- who is bouncing back from a late-season foot issue -- started 14 of 15 games he appeared in as a rookie, but he posted an uninspiring 43-418-0 receiving line on 85 targets. He was one of the least productive starting receivers in the league in 2023.

  • Panthers' Jaycee Horn: Fifth-year option to be picked up

The Panthers have elected to pick up Horn's fifth-year contract option, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Horn, who the Panthers took eighth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, is thus slated to remain under contract with the team through the 2025 campaign. Injuries have hampered the starting cornerback over his first three years as a pro, but when available, the 24-year old has made his mark in Carolina's secondary by racking up 85 tackles and four picks over the course of 22 regular-season outings.

  • Panthers' Xavier Legette: Carolina surprises at 32nd pick

The Panthers selected Legette in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 32nd overall.

Legette (6-foot-1, 223 pounds) is a uniquely explosive athlete (4.39-second 40, 40-inch vertical) for such a heavy receiver, and in 2023 his production at South Carolina went crazy as he made big play after big play downfield. He's more comfortable running in a straight line than sideways, which limits the number of ways you can get him the ball and makes it easier for defenses to stop him once opponents determine which parts of the field he'll avoid. While he showed great hands and even yards-after-the-catch ability in 2023, Legette might face more jamming troubles from NFL corners, which would threaten to delay his otherwise compelling downfield speed. Indeed, it's a red flag that he was so athletically explosive all along but couldn't produce until his fifth collegiate season. Given Bryce Young's 2023 struggles, it is in any case difficult to see much fantasy opportunity for Legette in 2024 specifically.
