  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Lands big payday

The Seahawks and Smith agreed to a three-year, $105 million contract extension Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. A second-round pick of the Jets in the 2013 NFL Draft, Smith flamed out in his initial stop in the NFL and served as a journeyman until winning a quarterback battle against Drew Lock last summer in the post-Russell Wilson era in Seattle. Smith proceeded to put together an impressive campaign, completing 69.8 percent of his passes for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while also running for 366 yards and one more score. With wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and running back Kenneth Walker also under contract with the Seahawks for the next three seasons, the 32-year-old Smith has the skill-position talent at his disposal to continue to put up fruitful stat lines.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Contract talks underway

Smith has reportedly had positive contract negotiations with the Seahawks thus far, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Smith would likely be one of the top signal callers if he were to hit the open market this offseason, but it appears as if the Seahawks would like to avoid that possibility, as talks regarding an extension are seemingly moving in a positive direction. The 32-year-old quarterback put up career-best numbers across the board in his first season as a starter with Seattle, but given this was Smith's first year as a starter since 2014, any extension would likely be of the shorter variety as the team attempts to safeguard itself from any sort of regression.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Tosses two TDs in wild-card loss

Smith completed 25 of 35 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Saturday's 41-23 wild-card loss to the 49ers. He added 28 rushing yards on four carries and lost a fumble. Considering the quality of the defense he was facing, it was a solid performance from Smith in his playoff debut, but the Seahawks' defense fell apart in the second half. The 32-year-old will head into free agency after a remarkable comeback season that saw him lead the NFL with a 69.8 percent completion rate and throw for 4.282 yards and 30 touchdowns while starting all 17 regular-season games for Seattle, and his playoff performance shouldn't dissuade a team in need of a veteran QB from offering him a big contract.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Poor performance in win

Smith completed 19 of 31 passes for 213 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 19-16 win over the Rams. He added four rushes for 51 yards. Smith threw an interception on his first pass attempt of the game, which largely set the tone for the rest of his performance. While he threw multiple picks for only the second time this season, Smith managed to lead a few key drives. The first came early in the third quarter, which he capped by connecting with Tyler Lockett for a 36-yard touchdown. Though both ended in field goals, Smith also led drives late in the fourth quarter and in overtime to help Seattle win the game and keep their playoff hopes alive. Regardless of the team outcome, Smith had a very successful season from a personal perspective and should be a starter in 2023 -- whether that's for the Seahawks or with another team.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: QBs to Start

Smith was better than I expected in Week 17 against the Jets with 20 Fantasy points, and he's now scored at least 20 points in seven of his past nine games. One of those outings was against the Rams in Week 13 at Los Angeles, and Smith had 367 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The Seahawks are playing for a wild-card berth in this game, so Smith will hopefully have a big performance against the Rams, who just allowed Justin Herbert to score 21 Fantasy points against them in Week 17.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

Smith redeemed himself for his two-week skid with an efficient two-score game against a tough Jets defense in Week 17. Now he'll attempt to put the finishing touches on his Comeback Player of the Year campaign against the Rams. Smith went off for three touchdowns against L.A. back in a feisty Week 13 showdown. The Rams haven't mailed in a game since getting Baker Mayfield at quarterback and should keep it competitive, which is important since Smith needs to get north of 30 attempts to have a shot at 20-plus Fantasy points. Smith is the last quarterback the Rams gave up over 20 Fantasy points to this season, and he'll be in position to do it again at home.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Tosses two TDs in win

Smith completed 18 of 29 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 23-6 win over the Jets. He added 18 rushing yards on five carries. While Smith didn't produce much yardage, leaving that to Kenneth Walker and the backfield during a game in which Seattle never trailed, he was sharp when he needed to be and hit backup tight ends Colby Parkinson and Tyler Mabry for touchdowns in the first and second quarters. He's now one passing TD shy of 30 for the year, and with the Seahawks still alive in the race for a playoff spot, Smith might need to continue his remarkable comeback season for one more game in Week 18 against the Rams.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

I always love the revenge game angle, and Smith started his career with the Jets. And hopefully Smith will get Tyler Lockett (finger) back for this matchup after a one-game absence. But this Jets defense will make things tough on Smith, and I would only start him in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues. Only one quarterback has scored more than 18 Fantasy points against the Jets since Week 3, and it was Josh Allen twice. Smith has struggled of late with a combined 29 Fantasy points in his past two games against San Francisco and Kansas City, and he might be fading down the stretch. I'm worried about Smith in this matchup, especially if Lockett remains out.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Middling performance in loss

Smith completed 25 of 40 pass attempts for 215 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Saturday's 24-10 loss to the Chiefs. He added 16 rushing yards on three attempts. Smith turned in one of his poorer fantasy performances in an otherwise impressive 2022 campaign. The 32-year-old has struggled in recent weeks, averaging 239.0 passing yards while throwing three interceptions over his last three games. Things don't get any easier for Smith in Week 17 with a stout Jets defense on deck. In positive news, the veteran signal-caller may get explosive wideout Tyler Lockett (finger) back for next Sunday's tilt.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: QBs to Start

I wish Smith had Tyler Lockett (finger) for this game, but he's out. Still, Smith should get enough from DK Metcalf and the rest of his supporting cast of Marquise Goodwin, Noah Fant and Kenneth Walker III to be successful in this matchup. The Chiefs are third in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and 11 quarterbacks this season have scored at least 21 Fantasy points against Kansas City, including Davis Mills last week. Smith struggled in Week 15 against San Francisco with just 16 Fantasy points, but he scored at least 22 points in each of the six games prior to facing the 49ers. He should rebound this week in a possible shootout on the road.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Top DFS Play

Smith could top 40 pass attempts chasing the score in Kansas City this week. Even without Tyler Lockett, we like him as a surefire top-10 quarterback with top-three upside. Smith's 2022 efficiency combined with the game script presented in Week 16 could make him a tourney winner this week.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Possible Bust (Lineup Decisions)

There's no question that Smith has played great for much of this year, but the 49ers pass rush and pass defense has played great for much of this year, too. They rank 12th in passing yards per game allowed, fifth-best in Fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks and third best in defensive EPA per dropback. The 49ers make it tough to trust Smith, hurting his upside for this week. I'd rather start Aaron Rodgers in much easier matchups.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Solid numbers in loss

Smith completed 31 of 44 passes for 238 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions while adding an 18-yard rush on his one attempt in the Seahawks' 21-13 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night. He also committed a fumble that was recovered by Seattle. Smith's final numbers were adequate from a fantasy perspective -- especially against an elite defense -- but he ultimately wasn't able to help the Seahawks keep up with the Brock Purdy-led 49ers offense. The veteran signal-caller continued to demonstrate excellent chemistry with his top receiving duo of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett -- who suffered a broken finger in the contest -- and he also connected with Noah Fant for a 10-yard touchdown with 3:35 remainiing. However, the Seattle defense was never able to get Smith the ball back for a potential game-tying drive, but he'll aim to step up his performance in what should be a critical Week 16 matchup against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium a week from Saturday.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Inconsistent in defeat

Smith completed 21 of 36 passes for 264 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Panthers. He also rushed three times for 20 yards. Smith was picked off on his first throw of the game, setting the stage for an uneven performance. The signal-caller was intercepted another time in the first half, but Smith still distributed the ball relatively well, as each of his top three receivers (DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Marquise Goodwin) caught at least five passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. With a second straight three-score game, Smith carries decent recent form into a tricky Week 15 matchup Thursday night versus the 49ers.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: QBs to Start

Smith has scored at least 22 Fantasy points in five games in a row, and he might be asked to do more with Kenneth Walker III (ankle) banged up this week. Smith has actually attempted at least 37 passes in consecutive games against the Raiders and Rams, so the Seahawks might have transformed into a passing team based on how well Smith has done this year. The Panthers have allowed three of their past five opposing quarterbacks to score at least 21 Fantasy points, and I like Smith as a borderline top-five quarterback in this matchup at home.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Cleared for Week 14

Smith (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Panthers, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports. The right shoulder issue that resulted in Smith's practice reps being capped Thursday won't prevent him from playing this weekend, but the signal-caller could have to get by without some key weapons at his disposal. Most notably, starting wideout DK Metcalf (hip), lead back Kenneth Walker (ankle) and top tight end Will Dissly (calf) are listed as questionable after their respective injuries affected their practice participation this week. Smith will at the very least have trusty slot man Tyler Lockett available in the passing game, but the ability of Metcalf in particular to play through his injury would be a major boon to the quarterback's Week 14 fantasy outlook.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Tending to right shoulder issue

Smith was a limited practice participant Thursday due to a right shoulder injury, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports. Like wide receiver DK Metcalf (hip), Smith is showing up on the Seahawks' second injury report of Week 14 after avoiding it entirely Wednesday. It's notable that Smith is dealing with an issue to his throwing arm, but with one practice to go Friday he has a chance to put any questions about his playing status behind him ahead of Sunday's contest against the Panthers.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Top DFS Play

We currently aren't expecting Kenneth Walker to play in Week 14 and if last week was any indication that means more pass attempts for Geno Smith. Considering Smith has been one of the most efficient passers in the NFL this season, that gives him major upside and he's not priced like an elite option.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: Career-best effort against Rams

Smith completed 28 of 39 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 27-23 win over the Rams. The 367 yards were a career high for Smith, who overcame a huge revenge game from former Seahawk Bobby Wagner that included two sacks and an INT to engineer a comeback win. After the Rams took a 23-20 lead with just under three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Smith led a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended in a DK Metcalf touchdown reception with only 36 seconds left on the clock. The 32-year-old QB has tossed multiple TD passes in six straight games and has racked up at least 275 passing yards in four straight, giving him plenty of momentum heading into a Week 14 clash with the Panthers.

  • Seahawks' Geno Smith: QBs to Start

Smith comes into Week 13 with a streak of four games in a row with at least 22 Fantasy points, and he should be facing a depleted Rams defense in this matchup. Aaron Donald is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, and it would be surprising if he played in this meaningless game for Los Angeles. In the Rams past two games against Andy Dalton and Patrick Mahomes, those quarterbacks have combined for 580 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception for an average of 23.5 Fantasy points. Smith is a solid top-10 Fantasy quarterback this week.
