Davenport has agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Lions after playing only four games for the Vikings in 2023 due to a high-ankle sprain, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. The linebacker has never made it through a full season healthy and will be on a one-year deal for the second campaign in a row. Davenport played 112 defensive snaps and finished with seven tackles, including 2.0 sacks, with the Vikings last season. The sixth-year pro played in a career-high 15 games in 2022 with the Saints and finished with 29 tackles.... See More ... See Less

Vikings' Marcus Davenport: High-ankle sprain ends season
Davenport logged seven total tackles including 2.0 sacks in four games during the 2023 regular season. Davenport's first season in Minnesota was cut short by a high-ankle sprain suffered in Week 4. The 2018 first-round pick out of UTSA was only on a one-year deal, so he'll hit the open market once again this offseason. Given his injury history -- he's played more than 11 games only once in the last four seasons -- the 27-year-old could very well end up having to settle for another short-term, prove-it deal.... Vikings' Marcus Davenport: Could be set for prolonged absence
Davenport suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Bears, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Davenport was carted off the field in Week 6 and could now be forced to miss over a month of action, as the injury carries a typical recovery timetable of 4-to-6 weeks. It's possible that Minnesota will place him on injured reserve, and in Davenport's absence, D.J. Wonnum will likely step into a starting role.... See More ... See Less -
Vikings' Marcus Davenport: Leaves game with ankle injury
Davenport is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the Bears due to an ankle injury, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports. Davenport limped to the sideline after a third down run by Justin Fields, and the former was subsequently carted to the locker room. Davenport has battled an ankle injury all season but came into Sunday's game without an injury designation. D.J. Wonnum is a candidate for an increased workload if Davenport is unable to return.... Vikings' Marcus Davenport: Gets sack in win
Davenport had four total tackles, including a sack, in Sunday's win at Carolina. Davenport played on 45 of the defense's 72 snaps as he had an immediate impact in his first full game with the Vikings. Davenport missed Week 1 with an ankle injury, played just four snaps in Week 2 after aggravating the injury and then missed Week 3. It looks like he could be an impact player in the pass rush if he can stay healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Vikings' Marcus Davenport: Will suit up Sunday
Davenport (ankle) is active for Sunday's matchup against the Panthers, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Davenport has battled an ankle injury to start 2023, but it appears he's healthy enough to suit up for Week 4. He's appeared in just one game thus far, failing to record any counting stats across four defensive snaps.... See More ... See Less -
Vikings' Marcus Davenport: Won't play vs. Chargers
Coach Kevin O'Connell said Friday that Davenport (ankle) is out for Sunday's game versus the Chargers, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. Davenport aggravated an existing ankle injury during Week 2 at Philadelphia and will have to sit out at least one more game as he recovers. In his absence, D.J. Wonnum should continue to start at outside linebacker opposite Danielle Hunter.... See More ... See Less -
Vikings' Marcus Davenport: Ready for Week 2
Davenport (ankle) is active for the Vikings' matchup with the Eagles on Thursday Night Football. Davenport was listed as limited with an ankle injury on Monday's estimated practice report, but he appears ready to go for Thursday's contest. The 27-year-old will be making his debut with Minnesota after signing with the team in the offseason.... See More ... See Less -
Vikings' Marcus Davenport: Agrees to one-year Vikings contract
Davenport agreed to a one-year, $13 million contract with the Vikings on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Barring any unforeseen snags, this deal will be consummated when the new league year begins Wednesday. Davenport had just half a sack for the Saints in 2022 after totaling 9.0 in 2021, so he's likely hoping to bounce back on a prove-it deal and cash in with a long-term contract next offseason.... Saints' Marcus Davenport: Returning to action
Davenport (calf) is active Sunday against the 49ers. Davenport has been out since suffering the injury Week 9 against the Ravens. After logging limited practices throughout the week, the 26-year-old will return to action, which should be a major boon for the Saints' defensive line, especially with Cameron Jordan also returning from a fractured orbital.... Saints' Marcus Davenport: Could play in Week 12
Davenport (calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers. Davenport has been sidelined for the past two weeks with a calf injury sustained during New Orleans' Week 9 loss to Baltimore. However, the 26-year-old managed to log three limited practices ahead of Sunday's contest, and he should have a solid chance to suit back up versus San Francisco. Davenport recorded 19 tackles and 0.5 sacks over the first nine games of the season, and his availability would be a big boost with fellow starting defensive end Cameron Jordan (orbital) also questionable to play.... Saints' Marcus Davenport: Sitting out Sunday
Davenport (calf) is inactive Sunday against the Steelers. Davenport suffered the injury in Monday's loss to the Ravens and hasn't recovered enough to return to play. Carl Granderson and Tanoh Kpassagnon are both candidates to see increased work in Davenport's absence.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Marcus Davenport: Off PUP list
Davenport (shoulder) passed his physical and can now practice with the team, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Davenport opened camp on the PUP list after also missing minicamp. Now that he's been cleared, Davenport can practice with the team. He'll be working to build off his career-best fourth season where he totaled 39 tackles, three forced fumbles and nine sacks in just 11 games.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Marcus Davenport: Starting training camp on PUP list
Davenport (shoulder) was added to the Saints' physically unable to perform list Thursday, Romni Dijohn of WDSU.com reports. Davenport will have to be medically cleared from this list before he's able to participate in New Orleans' training camp that starts next week. The 25-year-old did not practice during minicamp while recovering from separate shoulder and finger surgeries undergone this offseason. Saints coach Dennis Allen said in June that he expects Davenport to be back for training camp, so it's possible the starting defensive end could be activated off this list before the start of the regular season.... Saints' Marcus Davenport: Recovering from finger surgery
Davenport (shoulder) had the top portion of his left pinkie finger amputated earlier in the offseason, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports. Davenport experienced an infection after a plate, which was inserted during a prior surgery, broke in his finger, prompting the amputation. The 25-year-old also underwent surgery on his right shoulder in January but still hopes to be healthy in time for training camp.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Marcus Davenport: DNP on Thursday
Davenport (ankle) did not practice Thursday. The defensive end appears to have left the Saints' Week 17 win over the Panthers a little worse for wear, causing him to miss each of the first two practices of the week with an ankle injury. Davenport still has one more opportunity to make it onto the practice field Friday, but if he can't play in Week 18 against the Falcons, Jalyn Holmes could end up starting in his place.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Marcus Davenport: Cleared to face Jets
Davenport (shoulder) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Jets, Amie Just of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Davenport will make his return after a two-game absence. Injuries have limited the defensive end to six appearances this season, but Davenport's been effective when available, racking up 5.5 sacks in those six games.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Marcus Davenport: Yet to practice
Davenport (shoulder) has been a non-particpant at practice for consecutive days to start the week. With the Saints playing the Cowboys on Thursday, Davenport's absence from practice means he is not yet trending in the right direction. He missed the team's Thanksgiving loss to the Bills due to a shoulder injury suffered the week prior.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Marcus Davenport: Gets to quarterback twice
Davenport recorded three tackles and two sacks in Sunday's 23-21 loss to the Titans. Davenport's sacks came at key points in the game and kept the Saints within striking distance of the Titans. He first took down Ryan Tannehill for a seven-yard loss early in the third quarter, a stop that led directly to a punt. He stalled another Tennessee drive early in the fourth quarter by sacking Tannehill and forcing a field goal rather than a potential game-sealing touchdown. Davenport now has four sacks on the season, which is tied for the team lead.... See More ... See Less -
Saints' Marcus Davenport: Out at least three weeks
The Saints placed Davenport (shoulder) on injured reserve Friday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Davenport was forced from Week 1 action early with a pectoral injury that eventually was revealed to be a strain. Ultimately, he didn't practice this week before New Orleans made the decision to shut him down for at least the next three weeks. Davenport can return as early as Week 5 in Washington, but an ensuing bye week may spur the team to push his return back further. While Davenport is sidelined, Carl Granderson and Tanoh Kpassagnon (calf) will fill in at defensive end opposite Cameron Jordan.... See More ... See Less
