The Texans activated Greenard (calf) from injured reserve Saturday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports. Greenard has been on injured reserve since suffering a calf injury during Week 4, but he'll presumably be active for Sunday's matchup against the Chiefs. Before his absence, the third-year defensive end totaled nine tackles and 1.5 sacks while playing a sizable role along Houston's defensive line.... See More ... See Less

Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Returning to practice
The Texans designated Greenard (calf) to return from IR on Wednesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. Greenard hasn't played since Week 4 due to a calf injury. He now begins a 21-day window to be evaluated at practice without counting against the active roster. Houston can activate Greenard at any point in that span, meaning he could be available as early as Sunday versus the Cowboys.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Won't play at Jaguars
Greenard (ankle) won't travel with the team to Jacksonville ahead of Sunday's game. It was previously reported by Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com that Greenard was trending toward playing Week 5, but he'll now be missing Houston's last game before its Week 6 bye. He should be back to full strength after the bye week, but in the meantime Jerry Hughes and Rasheem Green should be in line for increased reps.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Logs Week 2 sack
Greenard had a sack and two quarterback hits in Sunday's 16-9 loss to the Broncos in Week 2. Greenard played just 42 of 72 (58 percent) defensive snaps Sunday after getting a 67 percent share in Week 1. There was no reason given for the slight drop in snaps, but it could have been due to Houston's defense melting down in the fourth quarter and overtime against the Colts the previous week. Texans head coach Lovie Smith wanted to keep that unit fresh for the whole game. Greenard led the Texans with eight sacks in 12 games last season.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Resumes practicing
Greenard (foot) is participating in Saturday's practice, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports. Greenard was expected to retake the field during the early stages of training camp, and it looks like his recovery from offseason foot surgery is exactly on track. The 25-year-old led Houston with eight sacks last season (12 appearances), and the team is reportedly hopeful he can make further strides during the 2022 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Done for Week 18
Greenard (foot) will not return Sunday against the Titans. Greenard limped off the field after suffering the injury in the first quarter. With Greenard done for the day, Jordan Jenkins will likely see a boost in snaps.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Ready to go Sunday
Greenard (foot) was cleared from the Texans' injury report Friday. Greenard was able to clear COVID protocols Thursday, but he popped up on the injury report with a foot issue and was limited in practice. Now healthy, Greenard should start on the edge of the defensive line Sunday against the 49ers.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Enters COVID list
The Texans placed Greenard on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday after he tested positive for the virus, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports. Houston will now be without its top pass rusher for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Jacob Martin and Jordan Jenkins should serve as Houston's starting defensive ends for the contest with Greenard out of the mix.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Active for Week 13
Greenard (foot) is active for Sunday's contest against the Colts, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports. Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Keeps up sack streak
Greenard had three solo tackles, one sack and one pass breakup during Sunday's 38-22 loss to the Rams. Gennard has recorded at least one sack in four straight games, bringing his total to seven through six appearances. The second-year pro has been one of the lone bright spots of Houston's defensive front, and he's now set for a prime Week 9 matchup against the Dolphins' vulnerable O-line.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Gets to quarterback twice
Greenard recorded six tackles and two sacks in Sunday's 31-3 loss to the Colts. Greenard took down Wentz on two occasions for losses of six and three yards. He now has four sacks on the season across four games while also forcing a fumble.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Back from ankle sprain
Greenard (ankle) isn't listed on Wednesday's injury report, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports. Greenard suffered an ankle sprain during the preseason game against the Packers, but he's fully recovered in time for Week 1. The 24-year-old recorded 19 tackles (10 solo) and a sack in 13 games as a rookie last year.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Switching positions
Greenard was working out with the Texans' defensive linemen during Thursday's practice, Mark Berman of Fox 26 KRIV reports. Greenard was drafted as a linebacker out of Florida by the team last season, and he saw action in 13 games, recording 19 tackles (11 solo) and a sack over that span. Greenard is listed at 263 pounds, so he'll likely look to add some weight on this offseason in order to provide depth at defensive end heading into the 2021 season.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Season-high snap count
Greenard had three tackles over a season-high 57 snaps in the Week 9 win over Jacksonville. Greenard, a 2020 third-round pick out of Florida, had played just 11 snaps before Week 9. He was given a more prominent role while the Texans managed a depleted linebacking corps. Both Dylan Cole (back) and Whitney Mercilus returned this week, but Jacob Martin (COVID-19) remains sidelined and Brennan Scarlett (forearm) was placed on injured reserve. Greenard could continue to see elevated playing time along with a role on special teams.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Moving up depth chart
Greenard is expected to see an uptick in usage at outside linebacker for Sunday's game against Jacksonville, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports. The Texans are all of the sudden feeling thin at linebacker, with Jacob Martin testing positive for the virus Thursday and both Dylan Cole and Whitney Mercilus being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list after coming in close contact with Martin. With Kyle Emanuel dealing with a concussion, that leaves both Greenard and Brennan Scarlett as healthy outside linebackers. Despite suiting up in four games this season, Greenard has yet to record an IDP-relevant stat.... See More ... See Less -
Texans' Jonathan Greenard: Questionable for season opener
Greenard (ankle) is officially questionable for Thursday's season opener against the Chiefs. Greenard was limited in practice Monday and Tuesday before being handed another limited designation in Wednesday's estimation of participation had the Texans held a practice. Davin Bellamy or Jacob Martin could see an uptick in workload should Greenard sit Thursday.... See More ... See Less
