Houston designated Scruggs to return Wednesday and the rookie center was able to participate fully in all three practices leading up to Sunday's contest. He was placed on IR on Aug. 31 after sustaining a leg injury in the preseason.

    The Texans designated Scruggs (hamstring) to return from injured reserve Wednesday. Scruggs suffered a hamstring injury during the team's preseason final and has been on injured reserve since then. The 23-year-old returned to practice Wednesday, and the Texans will now have 21 days to officially activate him.

    Scruggs replaced Scott Quessenberry (knee) during Thursday's practice session, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports. Quessenberry went down with a knee injury, which was later learned to be a torn ACL and MCL. That means Scruggs, the second-round selection out of Penn State in 2023 NFL Draft, moves to the top of the center depth chart. Houston poured a lot offseason dollars into its offensive line, which will now operate with a rookie at center.

  • Texans' Juice Scruggs: Beefs up Houston interior line

    The Texans selected Scruggs in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 62nd overall. Scruggs (6-foot-3, 301 pounds) is expected to line up at center, where he already demonstrated a standout skill set at Penn State, but he should be able to play well from the guard spots too. Though a bit light, Scruggs has excellent reach on the interior (33 and 1/4-inch arms) and showed above-average athleticism with a 5.22-second 40 and especially his 32-inch vertical jump.
