  • Eagles' Justin Evans: Remains on IR for Week 11

Evans (knee) won't be activated from injured reserve before Monday's game against the Chiefs, Zach Berman of PHLY Sports reports. Evans' 21-day window to be activated from injured reserve was opened Tuesday, but he has yet to be added to the active roster and will miss Monday's game as a result. His next chance to play will come in Week 12 against the Bills, though Evans will first need to be officially activated.

  • Eagles' Justin Evans: Suffers neck injury

Evans (neck) is questionable to return to Monday's contest with the Buccaneers. Evans suffered a neck injury in the first quarter of the game and he went into the medical tent prior to heading to the locker room. The 28-year-old was replaced by Terrell Edmunds at strong safety, and the latter will likely handle the lion's share of work if Evans can't return.

  • Eagles' Justin Evans: Signs with Philadelphia

Evans signed with the Eagles on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Evans will help fill the hole left at safety after C.J. Gardner-Johnson left to sign with the Lions. The 27-year-old played in 15 games for the Saints last year, making four starts and registering a career-low 29 tackles (17 solo). The 2017 second-round pick may compete with Reed Blankenship for playing time and potentially a starting spot at free safety.

  • Saints' Justin Evans: Injures shoulder Saturday

Evans (shoulder) is questionable to return to Saturday's game against the Browns, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Evans logged two tackles before exiting at some point in the second half. With starting strong safety Marcus Maye (shoulder) already inactive Saturday, the Saints' secondary will be left extra short-handed for the time being.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Held out with sore Achilles

Evans didn't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Cowboys due to a sore Achilles, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Evans was expected to see playing time in Tampa Bay's last preseason contest after missing time with a foot injury, but head coach Bruce Arians held the safety out Thursday. It's unclear if he'll be ready to play in the season opener Sept. 8 against San Francisco.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Spotted sporting boot

Evans (toe) was in a walking boot on the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports. Evans appears to have suffered a setback with the toe injury that has had him sidelined since December of last year. Evans did not participate in OTAs, and his participation in minicamp appears unlikely.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Won't return Sunday

Evans (toe) is ruled out to return to Sunday's game against the Panthers due to a toe injury, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Evans sat out the Buccaneers' last two contests due to a toe issue, and now appears to have aggravated the injury. The second-year safety will sit out the remainder of Sunday's tilt against the Panthers, allowing Isaiah Johnson to slot into the starting lineup.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Doesn't practice Wednesday

Evans (toe) did not participate at Wednesday's practice, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports. Evans continues to deal with the toe injury sustained Week 10 and was wearing a protective boot on his right foot as recently as Monday. The 23-year-old's participation at practice the rest of the week should clarify his status for Sunday's game.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Racks up tackles in Week 8

Evans recorded eight tackles (five solo) in the Buccaneers' Week 7 overtime win over the Browns. The starting strong safety was part of what was arguably the secondary's best effort of the season. Evans and his defensive backfield mates helped limit Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield to 215 yards passing, with an aggressive pass rush netting five sacks to support the cause. Given his position on the defense, Evans should continue to serve as a solid IDP option. He's now compiled 33 stops (26 solo) on the campaign.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Sees slot corner work Saturday

Evans, who was credited with two solo tackles and pass breakup in Thursday's 26-24 preseason win over the Dolphins on Thursday, saw time as a slot corner in Saturday's practice, Carmen Vitali of the team's official site reports. The move speaks to both the second-year player's athleticism and the team's lack of depth at the cornerback position at present. Vernon Hargreaves (groin) is facing a multiweek absence, while Brent Grimes has returned to practice but was still held out of team drills Saturday. Evans is listed as the starting free safety in the team's initial depth chart, but he displayed the ball skills during his two years at Texas A&M (11 pass breakups and five interceptions over 25 games) to potentially hang with slot wideouts down the field at the NFL level.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Could land on IR

Evans (ankle) could be placed on injured reserve later this week, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. One of several Buccaneers players to exit Monday's 24-21 loss to the Falcons due to injury, Evans looks like he could be dealing with more than a minor ankle issue. With the Buccaneers out of playoff contention, there's little for the team to gain by running its starting safety out for the final two contests of the season at less than full health. If Evans is in fact shut down, Chris Conte and Keith Tandy could pick up more snaps in the secondary.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Racks up stops in first start

Evans, making his first career start in Thursday's 19-14 loss to the Patriots, racked up nine tackles (eight solo), an interception and two passes defensed. The 2017 second-round pick acquitted himself very well in his first starting assignment, with his pick of Tom Brady on an overthrown pass intended for Chris Hogan on the Patriots' first drive serving as the highlight of his night. Evans also proved himself a sure tackler and wasn't a liability in deep coverage, as New England's long completion on the night went for a modest 34 yards. Starting free safety Keith Tandy's (hip) status for Week 6 remains uncertain, leaving open the possibility for Evans to log a second straight start versus the Cardinals.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Plenty of snaps likely in preseason opener

Evans is likely to see extended action during Friday's preseason opener versus the Bengals, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. As per head coach Dirk Koetter, Evans has started to increasingly show up on practice tape after a relatively quiet start to camp. The 2017 second-round pick is also in the process of being cross-trained for both safety positions after primarily playing free safety in college and thus far in camp, so he would certainly benefit from additional reps. Koetter also noted that the coaching staff is starting to monitor the snap counts of some of the veteran players a lot closer at this stage, which should also help open up snaps for the rookie in both practices and preseason contests.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Signs rookie contract

Evans signed his rookie contract Thursday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. The 2017 second-round pick arrives in Tampa with a playmaking reputation, having picked off five passes and defending another 11 over two college seasons at Texas A&M. Evans will compete with veterans Chris Conte, Keith Tandy and J.J. Wilcox for playing time and could also carve out a role as a kick or punt returner.

  • Buccaneers' Justin Evans: Second-round pick for Tampa

The Buccaneers selected Evans in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 50th overall. Evans (6-feet, 199 pounds) emerged as a playmaker for Texas A&M in 2016, finishing with 87 tackles and four interceptions in 13 games. That kind of tackle and turnover production bodes well for his IDP projection, as do his 41.5-inch vertical and 129-inch broad jump from his pro day workout. If the snaps are here, so should the IDP viability, but Evans will need to beat Chris Conte for snaps.
