McKitty failed to surpass 100 yards on the season despite playing in every game, and he was outgained by Donald Parham, who only suited up for six contests. While McKitty has primarily been used as a run blocker, he has still failed to live up to his status as a third-round pick. Don't expect McKitty to be involved more as a pass catcher unless the Chargers opt not to bring back Parham, who is a restricted free agent.

McKitty continues to see plenty of snaps as a blocking specialist and has slowly been incorporated into the passing attack more as a result. McKitty saw a massive increase in playing time after Gerald Everett left Sunday's game with a groin injury, and the second-year tight end would have had a nice outing if not for an easy first-half drop that would have went for a touchdown. Everett's status is one to monitor this week, as the Chargers typically tend to use at least one tight end as a pass catcher, particularly with Mike Williams (ankle) and Keenan Allen (hamstring) sidelined. Typically known as a blocking specialist, McKitty might be forced into a prominent role if Everett was to miss extended time.

Coach Brandon Staley stated McKitty is dealing with a "soft tissue" injury, adding the tight end is day-to-day. It appears the team is exercising caution with the second-year tight end. McKitty currently finds himself behind both Gerald Everett and Donald Parham in the tight end pecking order, so it's likely he'll face an uphill battle for playing time this season, barring an injury to either of his aforementioned teammates.

McKitty saw increased playing time Sunday with both Jared Cook (reserve/COVID-19) and Donald Parham (concussion) out for the contest. The rookie shared tight-end duties with Stephen Anderson, though McKitty played just 52 percent of the team's offensive snaps compared to Anderson's 78 percent share. McKitty, however, was more involved in the passing game, seeing three targets to Anderson's one. Parham remains on injured reserve, so if Cook isn't activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list in time for Week 18, McKitty will likely split reps with Anderson once again Sunday versus the Raiders.
