  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Makes first-year strides

Shakir finished the regular season with 10 catches for 161 yards and a TD catch over 14 games. Shakir was pretty far down the pecking order in a potent offense, but he did well as a fifth-round rookie just to be part of a veteran team's rotation. He even appeared in both playoff games and had 40-plus receiving yards in each. While the Bills will have some changes this offseason, most of the receiving room should remain intact and there could be added competition if veterans Cole Beasley and Jamison Crowder return. Still, Shakir may have more athletic talent than anyone in the team's passing game outside of Stefon Diggs, so his career arc merits watching.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Splits work with Beasley

Shakir played 30 of the Bills' 72 snaps on offense and recorded three receptions for 51 yards on five targets in Sunday's 34-31 win over the Dolphins in the wild-card round of the playoffs. Shakir's 42 percent offensive snap share was his largest since Week 12, as he and Cole Beasley (30 snaps) split the No. 3 receiver role in the postseason opener while Isaiah McKenzie (hamstring) was sidelined. Though Shakir and Beasley combined for a solid five catches for 86 yards and a touchdown across 10 targets, both players could seen downsized roles in Sunday's divisional-round matchup with the Bengals with McKenzie seemingly on track to return to the lineup. Jamison Crowder (ankle) also resumed practicing last week and could be activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game, adding more potential competition to the Buffalo receiver room.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Returns to practice Tuesday

Shakir (illness) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice. Shakir was sidelined for the first practice of Week 13 prep due to an illness, but he was a full participant during Tuesday's session and should be full go Thursday against New England. The rookie fifth-round pick has caught just one of four targets across his past five appearances.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Will not practice Sunday

Shakir (illness) won't practice Sunday, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports. Shakir will be absent for the start of the Bills' work week as they prepare to play the Patriots on Thursday. The rookie receiver has seen his role increase as Jamison Crowder and Jake Kumerow continue to miss time due to ankle injuries. Shakir most recently played 45 percent of the team's offensive snaps Thanksgiving, but he failed to see any targets, and he hasn't recorded a catch since Week 10 against the Vikings, then Week 6 against the Chiefs before that. He'll continue working to grab a larger target share Thursday against the New England, if he can recover in time to play.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Stashes (WR Preview)

Isaiah McKenzie made several mistakes in the Bills last game and rookies often get more playing time coming off the bye. If Shakir can wrestle the WR3 role away from McKenzie he'll be a must-roster player.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Small showing in big win

Shakir caught one of two targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Chiefs. With Isaiah McKenzie returning to the lineup after a one-game absence due to a concussion, Shakir dropped down to fourth in the pecking order at receiver. He served as the Bills' No. 3 wideout Week 5 against the Steelers and recorded three catches for 75 yards and a touchdown, flashing some intriguing upside if a larger role should reopen later this season. Shakir has done well to go from being a healthy inactive Week 1 to becoming a tertiary member of the passing attack in short time, but he's little more than a dart throw in fantasy lineups while all of Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, McKenzie and tight end Dawson Knox are available. Shakir's already limited playing time could be further suppressed when Jake Kumerow eventually returns from an ankle injury.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Stashes (WR Preview)

As for now we expect Isaiah McKenzie to man the slot role in Buffalo, but Shakir is nipping at his heels. If McKenzie is hurt again or Shakir steals the job, you'll have a weekly flex on your hands.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Week 6 Waiver Priority List

As of Monday, Isaiah McKenzie remained in the concussion protocol, but it's worth keeping an eye on his status. If McKenzie (50 percent rostered) can play in Week 6 at Kansas City then he has the chance to be a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in the majority of leagues. But the same goes for Shakir if McKenzie is out. In Week 5 against Pittsburgh, Shakir stepped up with three catches for 75 yards and a touchdown on five targets. We'll see if he earned a bigger role moving forward when everyone is healthy, and Shakir might have some staying power. It's never a bad idea to attach yourself to a great quarterback like Josh Allen, and Shakir is worth adding for 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Scores first career TD

Shakir brought in three of five targets for 75 yards and a touchdown in the Bills' 38-3 win over the Steelers on Sunday. He also returned one kickoff for 34 yards. The rookie was due for an expanded role coming in with Jamison Crowder (ankle), Isaiah McKenzie (concussion) and Jake Kumerow (ankle) all sidelined, and although his volume wasn't extraordinary, he made very good use of it. Shakir recorded his first professional touchdown on a 24-yard grab late in the first half, and he could still have a serviceable role in a Week 6 road showdown against the Chiefs even if McKenzie returns, as Crowder is expected to miss multiple games.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Healthy scratch in Week 3

Shakir (coach's decision) is inactive Week 3 against the Dolphins. Shakir saw two targets across 23 offensive snaps last week against the Titans, but he'll be the odd man out among the wideouts following the return of Gabe Davis (ankle). The Bills will proceed with five active wide receivers, and this move also solidifies the fact that frequent special teams contributor Jake Kumerow is ahead of Shakir on the depth chart.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Active for Monday's game

Shakir is active for Monday night's game against the Titans, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports. The rookie fifth-rounder was inactive Week 1, but he'll join the Bills' wide receiver mix Monday, with Gabe Davis (ankle) not playing. With Stefon Diggs, Isaiah McKenzie, Jamison Crowder and Jake Kumerow also available, however, it remains to be seen how much work Shakir will see in his NFL debut.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Inactive for Week 1

Shakir is inactive for Thursday night's season opener against the Rams. The rookie fifth-rounder thus will wait to make his NFL regular season debut. To start the season, the Bills' wideout corps will be comprised of Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, Isaiah McKenzie, Jamison Crowder and Jake Kumerow.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Keeps rolling

Shakir caught three receptions for 59 yards on three targets in Buffalo's preseason game against Denver on Saturday. Shakir has generally played as a backup and figures to remain one through the duration of his rookie season, but the talented fifth-round pick from Boise State clearly fell too far in the draft, and the Bills eventually will profit for that fact. Even if he can't break the top three on the Buffalo wideout depth chart, Shakir's talent looms as a concern for fellow slow wideouts like Jamison Crowder and Isaiah McKenzie.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Returns to practice

Shakir (soreness) returned to practice Wednesday, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports. Shakir missed only a few practices and may thus stand a chance to make his NFL debut in Saturday's exhibition against Indianapolis. The rookie fifth-round pick is competing for a backup receiver job and return work.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Strong start to training camp

Shakir had a strong weekend of practice, taking advantage of extra opportunities with veterans Jamison Crowder and Jake Kumerow (undisclosed) sidelined by injuries, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports. Crowder is making progress and expected to practice in some capacity this week, potentially pushing Isaiah McKenzie back to more second-team work. Shakir, a rookie fifth-round pick, has mostly worked with the backups this summer, but he could have a Week 1 role as the fourth or fifth receiver.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Sidelined to start minicamp

Shakir didn't participate in Tuesday's mandatory minicamp due to an undisclosed injury, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports. Shakir was selected by the Bills in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but he faces an uphill battle for targets as a rookie. The severity of the wideout's injury remains unclear, but any prolonged absence will impact his ability to make an impact in Year 1.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Goes to Buffalo after trade up

The Bills selected Shakir in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 148th overall. Wide receiver was arguably one of the Bills' biggest needs entering Day 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft, so Shakir lands in an excellent spot. A four-start recruit out of high school, the Boise State product didn't exactly live up to the hype, but 77 catches, 1,117 receiving yards and seven touchdowns during his senior season cemented Shakir as an intriguing prospect. A fluid and smooth route runner, the 22-year-old can really fill any role in a receiving corps and should be able to threaten defenses at the NFL level with his 4.43 40-yard speed.
